Tomorrow in the Maritimes we will be getting sun apparently!!! Whilst you westerners have been soaking up the sun we have been building our little boats to survive the floods.
So don't be selfish, please send some this way

Are you sure your AC is working? It was only 29 C in ours with no AC

My little wall mount a/c couldn't keep up so I just shut it down and opened all the windows and the door. It wasn't any worse and when the breeze came it was better. The fat cat just lay in the hall - I forgot to feed him and he didn't even complain till this morning.

I think you may have better insulation. I have one of those portable units with the hose out the window, I think it's past it's best. I just couldn't face going out and getting a new one and lugging it into place in this heat. Can't really judge how worn out the AC unit is until it cools down a bit.

When it is hot like it was yesterday...i close all the windows and doors during the day as it will be cooler inside than out..i got home yesterday after work although it was 34c in the shade and probably 50c in the sun..my house was 26c..if i had left the windows open my house would have been 34c at least...just open the windows after sunset and let the house cool during the night..this morning the temp in my house was a comfortable 20c.

That certainly works to a point - depending on what shade their may also be (external or internal).

That's what we do. The windows only get opened when the temps inside and outside are at equilibrium, and then only if it isn't humid. We keep the curtains and blinds closed too.

Last year we gave in and had central air installed. It was only 28C today, humidex 35C so we did some gardening.

That's horrible. Anything over 26c is too hot.

Well it's 32 now and much nicer, (sort of the high end of normal for here). Closing the trailer up only works until about 10 or so in the morning so I'm just shooting for what airflow I can get leaving curtains open in front of open windows and the welcome mat out for the bugs in front of the open door. If Sid Vicious the cat tries to sneak out past the verandah gate again I won't even try to catch him, I'll chase him out to the highway and haze him back and forth through the cars a few times.

And then spend an hour vacuuming up all the dust.
