Not sure that we ever felt homesick, but took 3 years almost to the day before we feel completely settled in our new home. Never had any thoughts of going back to the old country. Takes a while to know how things work, build up a network and understanding of the culture, then before you know it you are a part of that culture.
Moving anywhere is what you make of it, immigration is no different, the grass is not greener, maybe just a different shade of green.
There were some people we met here that kept going on about how disappointing Canada was, comparing it to 'back home'. Did not pursue that acquaintance. If you have the right attitude it has a better chance of working out, don't want to make it work and it won't.
Life in Canada is good for us, hopefully it will be for you too.

Get what you mean!
I have someone in my life at the moment who hates this city - she is going back to her own country in a couple of weeks and as nice as she is, I am looking forward to her going.
Rose coloured glasses are pointless but a bit of positivity goes a really long way....
Buy yourself a little rubber ring Gremmie, you might be able to see over the wheel then !
A positive thinking,

Been here 6 years and not one moments homesickness, never been back either.
That's not to say there aren't things I miss, fish'n'chips, pubs, roads with bends, roundabouts, good drivers, meat pies, pasties, friends. Hey, I guess food and enjoying a good drive to the pub!

I've been feeling pretty homesick over the last few months, to the point where I've had serious thoughts about the idea of going home. Mostly they relate to doing the job of universal suckage, and the fact that I've been single for way too long.
However, I know that going back won't solve either of these problems. PR will sort the first, and time the second....

You guys just gave me a good chuckle reading through this thread...LOL
It's interesting you mention this peas - my daughter and I got back from the UK a few weeks ago after a five week vacation there, and SHE is missing it. She's never lived there in her life, she was born in Germany and came here when she was 18 months old - it was her first time there since we left Europe. She keeps talking about how she plans to go live there when she's older, if only for a year or so.
LOL just to be pedantic, his bladder is incapable of being F-L-agrant. However; it COULD be F-R-agrant (and no - I aint finding out). Steve could be guilty of f-L-agrantly waving it about (though not a good idea, because if he did that literally, he'd be in some serious physical trouble
)
Just thought I'd clear that up
Bugger off then!
(no - don't do that. Yer a good laff
)
I read a book about reverse homesickness/culture shock before returning to Canada (I'm from Canada)... as apparently being homesick/culture shocked in your 'home' country can be worse. Although I miss my friends and I had a moment of missing where I lived in England, I've been a-ok... at least in that respect. I think understanding the phenomena has helped.
