Sorry you are having such a hard time Jo. You have been looking after your family and ther ailments and now it looks like you need to go out and have some fun .
not sure how much day care is where you are, in Quebec we pay $7.00 a day but maybe you could work PT while your hubby works. Is week end work an option?

Wow, you're lucky childcare is so cheap. My friend pays $600 pm for full time childcare for 1 child, another pays $600 pm for 2 children for 1 hr before & 1hr after school. I reckon 3 children, 1 at school, 1 in Kindergarten (so part time) and a 2 year old is going to cost about $1200-$1300 pm. I don't think i would get much more than that if i worked. Weekends could be an option but hubby works 2 Saturdays and 1 Sunday in 6. Evenings seems more favorable.
I think you're right though a few nights out and a bit of me time wouldn't go amiss!
