Porsche 944 s2 Cabriolet.
208ft/lbs of Torque 211 BHP, striaght 4
bought and owned since 2000,
paid £10k in 2000
44 is front engine, rear wheel drive, rear transaxle, so the balance is perfect 50/50.
All options, and in 91, the standard options list was higher than anything available on the market at the time.
No traction control, but has ABS which is ok, but not really ideal, I want something with (sorry I said traction control) I ment Electronic stability control. which assist's with braking.
With snow tyres and possibly chains I shoulndt have too much problems.

The above is moot cos you'll not even be able to start moving. That said, rear engine may help but you'd probably want to turn traction control off to help get you moving.
So what model porsche do you have that's only worth $15k CAD? Is it knackered?
Edited to add: Did you have the traction control fitted yourself?

Early 911's you could have problems with.
all depends on wether you know how to drive one.
dont forget you have an 80litre tank up front, when thats full of petrol that is indeed quite a bit of weight
Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, knew how to build his cars

I haven't drove a porsche in snow so i could be wrong but I have crashed one on a damp road.
I am just thinking of a heavy 3.6/3.8 flat six hung out the back and no weight at all over front wheels makes me think you got to be light on the loafers or have a carbon fibre sphincter

If you own and treasure a classic porsche, rather than ruin it driving with snow chains and gritted roads maybe best to go for the 6 months of the year option you mentioned .
after experiencing how easy it is to spin a 911 I would rather get a bus than drive 1 in the snow but maybe i just liked to bury my foot a little too much

2. $75 a year
3. Is none, not even a smog test for something that old. Safety is only needed to register a new (used) purchase.

I suspect if you import it it will need to be safetied before you can register it here. Should be < $100, plus any work needed to meet local standards.
Could be wrong though, what does the RIV site or MTO say if anything?

I thought canadian tire (note spelling
) took care of inspection of US spec vehicles for things like daytime running lights etc on the gopvernments behalf. Im not sure that applies to importing a non US market VINTAGE vehicle where the usual standards are waived? You might want to double check.
Oakvillian imported his old Morgan from the UK, he would know if you need a safety certificate to register an import for Canadian roads.
