When you go look around for stuffed vine leaves from Turkey, a nice can for $1.25, use within 4 days of opening. I put 3 or 4 in the microwave for 50 seconds and give'm a little Frank's.

Yes, pumpkins here are generally the orange variety.

Squash is just a generic term and we have some that food only and they are sold year round and cost more. I bought a small acorn squash and it was 2.99 per pound and was just over 3 pounds. Zuchini squash is around 2.29 per pound.

I like some squash as food, just not pumpkins. Squash is a treat too pricey for frequent eating.

Wal mart has the prices down to 3 as of yesterday but quality is bad. Lots of rot and mold.

Save On and Nesters are 3.99 and 3.98 still. Lowest so far has been 2.99 last week.

Pie pumpkins cost more and run about 5 each where available.

I've been eating pork tacos, hot pork sandwiches, pork noodle bowl, pork stir-fries, cold pork sandwiches for 5 days now from that $10 roast and it's almost gone. If I hadn't forgotten and had a couple of sandwiches for supper I was going to make a pork pie.
There's a good idea for next time, grind some and make a tortierre!

The Meat (and everything else) store up the road sells "ends" for cold meats, steak, pork chop etc.

It's very good value if you don't mind smaller pieces on your plate or in your sandwich instead of one bigger one and it certainly helps offset the more expensive stuff like Beef Tenderloin.

The other day I bought two packs for a total $3.80. Between them there were four decent size pork chops (just odd shape) which was perfect for the four of us. The few pieces left, once I cut the bones off, will make a very nice curry or something similar for two or three.

I get a lo of my meat at the Legion's meat raffle. Cold Saturday evenings have the best odds and if there's ice or snow it like shooting fish in a bucket.

Lamb is making the menu for dinner more. 2 lamb chops 4.78 last week, 2 pork chops 7.98. I didn't look at weights as the lamb chops were big enough for us. Turned out well.

Not frozen either. They are carrying fresh, BC grown lamb now.

Pork and beef have just gotten to crazy stupid prices, chicken, lamb and bison have come down to very competitive prices.

Vegetables are going up weekly, most likely due to nearly all of it coming from the US and our dollar going down a bit.

A bag of broccoli that cost us 2.50 a few months ago are now 3.98 with fewer sales, so less veggies.

Store is also stocking more store branded stuff.

That's a lot. When there's a good offer, usually about 6 big ones for $4-$6, we get two packs which does the four of us three times and might even give extra for other meat and rice dishes.

And then the next offer comes around again.

Superstore has Boneless Cross Rib for $3.99 lb this week. That can make a very good roast or steak.

Montreal steak spice can make nice steak out of the cheapest stuff.

A 6 pack typically runs 12 to 20 dollars depending on weight.

BC apparently leads the country in vegetable price increases. Up 15% this year, and up 2.7% in the last month.


I went for some asparagus today and it's one of the only veggies I find tasty, but at 5.99/lb, I decided to skip the vegetables for dinner.

Each week prices are higher. Have not seen prices go up this quick and so often before.

Never be tempted by the stuff in jars unless they're giving it away.

I don't like canned or pickled vegetables, they just don't taste good, and pickled anything is blech...


I went grocery shopping tonight, we had 35 dollars available for food. I did an inventory of the freezer and we have sufficient meat, and some pastas and beans to use as meals.

34.01 got us:

6 banana's

2 500g packs of frozen broccoli

2 500g packs of frozen asparagus

2lb carrots

bottle of mayo

2 jars of pasta sauce

8 rolls for the burger patties in the freezer.

1 box of whole wheat pasta.


Don't get much these days..

Tinned peas are decent enough. Especially eaten out of the tin.

Can't say I've ever seen it.
