Re: Groceries
The produce box wasn't as good as those I've bought before, but still worth the $5 I suppose, and the other stuff more than makes up for it. I doctored the veggie pizza up with ham and more cheese and had half for lunch and it's pretty good. The idea of planning meals to avoid wasting food took a hit since I got hurt because my appetite isn't as strong, so I have to look through the fridge regularly to make sure something I've forgotten about isn't spoiling.
Have gotten a couple of of those produce boxes before, while some of the produce has been eh and not usable, there has always been $5 worth of usable to make it worthwhile.
I wish that app would expand to other chains beyond Loblaw's owned banners, Save On, Safeway, etc.
My wife is pretty good at using up usable food we have, I don't have a good appetite courtesy of a medication side effect, downside is the medication also has a weight gain side effect, so despite eating less, I am gaining weight. ha ha
Hopefully once your recovered and healed yours will come back!

President's Choice Coffee pods $25 for 72 this week. Same as a couple of weeks ago and coupled with almost $5 worth of points that's just over $20 for 72 cups (plus 2nd uses of a pod for those that like it weaker - or for flavouring for ice cream, cakes or something.)
But for single use only that's 28c a cup. Can't go wrong.

Re: Groceries
Here's a weird one.
I only ever found one sweetener that didn't have a 'funny taste' and in the UK that was Canderel, over here Equal. It's aspartame and for some reason everyone thinks it's deadly even though all relevant jurisdictions have passed it.
The granules are handy for porridge - other cereals are sweet enough except cornflakes with hot milk. but it's the tablets I use for coffee and tea.
Anyway every now and then the tablets disappear.
Previously I got my mum to send me over some Canderel tablets. They do 'refill' packets in the UK so as well as it being cheaper that way, it wasn't a bulky packet to send over so didn't cost much to end.
But they've all disappeared from the shelves again except for the little granules packets of which I have plenty.
I looked on Amazon.ca and they were around $19 for 300. Store price is around $8.
Before looking for Canderel on Amazon's UK site I looked them up on the Canada site. Sure enough they were listed. Canderel, 300 for $8. Free delivery.
So I'm now awaiting delivery of 3 packs. Unfortunately they may not arrive until mid May so I may have to use granules when my tabs run out in a couple of days.
Odd that the stores have the granules but run out of tabs.
PS - I have found them on a couple of other Canadian sites but either the delivery rates up the price or you need a $50 order to get free delivery and there's nothing else on the site that I want.

Re: Groceries
Been comparing some prices on IC Wal-Mart vs Costco, per unit price not total price as Costco will always be higher total price wise since the volume is larger so its per unit price. They are the IC prices for each store, but Costco makes it pretty much impossible to price comparison online so the best I could do.
Coca Cola
Wal-Mart comes to 45 cents per can for a 12 pack
Costco comes to 50 cents per can for a 32 pack.
Eggs
Wal-Mart 25 cents per egg
Costco 33 cents per egg
Toilet paper (purex brand)
Wal-Mart 42 cents per roll
Costco 68 cents per roll
Milk 4 liters, Coscto no brand listed, Wal-Mart is Dairyland.
Wal-Mart 4.79
Costco $5.79

Re: Groceries
Another way stores try and trick the brain.
2 for $10 for 12 packs of Pepsi.
So about 41 cents per can.
24 pack is only $8.97
About 37 cents per can.
Noticed eggs have gone up in price, over $3/dozen for basic store eggs now.

Re: Groceries
Eggs went up in price again, at this rate it will be $4/dozen before long, and people in the US complaining their eggs are like $1.50/dozen now...
Milk maybe has gone up, it's $4.79 at Wal-Mart, seems its higher than it was a few months ago.

Re: Groceries
Made a visit to Sobeys yesterday having been tempted by their cherries @ $3.99/lb.
They've definitely put a lot of their prices up - even the 'new' Panache label seems to be an excuse to charge more. Since when did one of those small Pate slices cost $5.69? $2.99 in Walmart.
Anyway, the targeted shop can still be worth doing there.
Fresh fruit, bread, cheese, chicken, pork, frozen fries, ice cream and bars, butter spread, HP fruity sauce, pepsi.
Receipt shows I paid $112.52, savings of 46% bringing the total down from $206.01.
No 'best before' deals and no coupons.
Of course I know that I haven't really saved $93 since I would never have paid their (supposed) normal price for any of the things I bought, simply because you never need to.

Re: Groceries
I bought this box for the peppers and pears, and when I got it home discovered a 1lb pack of organic Cremini mushrooms underneath the bananas, and the rest of the bottom was covered in lemons. I'm a happy camper.
The last box I got was full of blood oranges and they were delicious. I only had to throw a few out, and probably could have saved those if I'd paid more attention. Also in that one was about a pound of green beans.
