When I was in the RN we had a Lt Com who used to swear alot - but given his posh oxford manner it never sounded right - more funny then offensive. He really dragged out each syllable:
oh ....fu...ck.....in......g ...hell!
He was a complete toff and an absolute wanker. When on the bridge he would put his empty tea cup in front of who was on the helm, which was his way of saying get me tea now you low life, lower rank git.
He should take comfort in not knowing the 'free extras' we used to put in his tea for him!

The mind boggles considering you were on a RN ship.

Interesting to note the least offended on this thread are coppers! Names I could n't give a toss about comments hurled in my direction - comes with the territory - now bodily fluids, bullets and knives are a whole different ball of wax.

Bit of 'wee in someone's tea' ..... if feel a limerick coming on:
There was once a captain at sea, who often enjoyed a good cup of tea
The men under his command, thought it quite bland
And peeded in it for free!
The HMS Hurworth - which is see is still afloat:

Was on there during the Herald the Free Enterprise Disaster. Just figured out the Lt Com was Farnshawe - real prick he was.

This is what I would have expected. I doubt many prison officers are offended by being called screws, in fact they probably call themselves that now. Personally, all this kind of stuff fascinates me, without being too poncy I can say that I love words and how they work and the fact the meanings change and slang comes and goes and that people are irritated by it.
