Jancal here : just a line or two to say that I am signing off. I had been thinking of doing such as it was all getting a bit too nasty for me and then with the banning yesterday that made up my mind. I emailed the moderator when it happened to say can you please explain why you have done this as they will think it was me – of course they cannot do that and so I thought I would just get deleted and after that thought – now they will think it was me.
To be honest I am new to this forum thing and didn’t realise that complaining was an option – just tried to give as good as I got – of course failed dismally – wrong generation and too thin skinned I think – no match for the keyboard bullies. And I rose to the bait of course when I saw such sweeping statements about a place that I have come to love and couldn’t believe the crap being stated. Just not full of enough “piss and vinegar†as they say here. I have been fortunate to live in many countries including Australia, NZ and the US and Canada is by far the most pleasant and where I hope to stay. Just a question for “some†why did you choose Canada as your particular narrow mindedness and aggression really belongs in the old world not the new??
So for anyone still on their way over to Calgary beware of those neocon tub thumpers'- (still haven’t a clue what the heck that or they are talking about) and I have still to work out where/what is Heartland. The very best of luck to you but as I have said before please make sure you have as much in place as you can as there is downturn here as there is everywhere else.
<<snip>>
I wish you all the Christmas you deserve.

Heartland is a television series set in Alberta, it defines the Canadian west in the eyes of eastern youth. The trucks are nice but the cowboys are a little effeminate for my taste.

You just couldnt help kicking him while he cant defend himself here could you. Youve actually met him?
Making judments about people based on postings on an anonymous weblog is probably not all that wise. Personally I think he just has a misunderstood sense of humour, something brits living in Canada can probably empathise with. By way of example, for the longest time I thought dbd was a bit of an arse too, but over time I've come to appreciate his posts and the dry humour and occasional insight within
Good Luck to you, but really there is no need for these grand exit statements, people come an go all the time here, no explanation is necessary.

To the OP: it's not real life, and it's not personal. It's just a message board. Take a break for a few days or weeks (I do every now and again) then come back and post whatever you have that is useful or entertaining, and look with mild bemusement at all the posters who get worked up about ... well nothing really

Boy, I must have missed something yesterday, wasn't on here much. Sounds like the usual Canada-bashers have upset someone. No need to make a grand exit, you simply have to remember this is a forum that will bring all kinds, and a forum for ex-Brits in Canada is bound to attract those who don't like it here just so they can muck-disturb and have an outlet for their grinding axes. Most ex-pats have settled happily, made a success of their lives here, and have no need to Canada-bash (they are usually too involved with other things than to spend time on here nit-picking at Canada). Not sure what the mods took offence to, maybe feeling unusually sensitive, because I have seen many posts that I thought would be deleted immediately, but they remained. When you have been on here awhile you get to predict who will post what, and take it with a pinch of salt. And you can always use the "ignore" function. Stick around, no need to leave.

It is called a flounce on other boards I visit. It can be great fun judging the quality of a flounce, and betting on how long it will be before the poster is back in one form or another. As you say, if someone really wants to leave they will just stop visiting.
