No. But I am saying that it was Chretien who initiated the first investigation into the program and Martin who instigated the Public Inquiry and the Gomery Commission.

People (conveniently) forget that.

Do you see Harper calling for anything other than silence?

Isnt he calling for the leaked report to be made public
Jean Chrétien was forced to address the issue.
Could just be the way its written, but that hardly sounds like he was super keen on the enquiry, and then there was the whole Shawinigan golf course thing, which although there was no smoking gun didnt exactly leave him smelling of roses either. But we could talk about Mulroney in the same context too, so its not like any one side of the political divide holds the moral high ground in my opinion.

I'm sorry. Calling for silence and lying through his teeth.

Edit to address your edit: Of course he was forced to investigate. That's how things should work in a democracy.

And isnt that how its likely to fall out for the conservatives, once the report is actually tabled in parliament?

Jumping all over a draft report leaked during an election campaign seems a bit premature, not to mention desperate. It could be completely made up, it could be significantly different to the final report, or it could be describing exactly what happened, but its a bit soon to say, and the timing and motivation for leaking it are problematic.

Call me old fashioned, but dont these politicians have like, policies, and stuff that they might wish to promote and discuss at this time instead?

Yes. All three parties have announced their platforms. Harper is a bit out of step by actually announcing his platform for the election after this one by mistake.

Greg Weston on CBC has just broken a report of a letter Sheila Fraser has made public in which she accuses the Harperists of lying to the Commons.

The Cons used a quote from her which they said describes her opinion of G8/G20 spending by the government as "prudent".

Just one small problem. The quote was actually from her report on the Liberals' post-911 spending.

Jesus, this rabble has no shame.

So, 3 hours until debate time.

This should be fun. (I hope).

What time does it start - is that 7pm Toronto?

How many times will the word "coalition" be used by one side and "prorogue" by the other?

7 pm EST, yes. There'll be a megabunch of coalitions, the odd prorogue and a great number of contempts, corruptions and arrogances I would think.

Well it's our anniversary today so we're off out for dinner.

No debates for me.

Congratulations! And I also hope you're correct in predicting no debates during dinner.
