Deodorant

Inspired from a thread last week about stuff brought back from the UK, I thought I would ask members here wot they use....I always bring back Soft and Gentle deodorant, I have used it ever since I remember and love it.....I have tried using spray deodorants here but none of them see to have anti antiperspirant in them....and I hate roll ons, they always seem to leave my arm pits horribly sticky....so I guess I haven't found the right one....there is gonna come a day where I probably wont go back to the UK yearly and stock up.....so the question is.....wot Deodorant do u use??

Now now Mr Prof, scoff as much as you like, but it's a very serious question. At certain times of the year I tend to use "Scent Blocker - Odour Eliminator".

I think it makes you smell more like deer wee than anything

I am so glad that spray deodorants aren't in fashion here, I don't know anyone who uses them here, and they just DON'T work!

I'm especially grateful that they aren't popular with men. At my old work in the UK the men would stink up the place with an overpowering scent in the morning and stink of BO by lunchtime.

Re: Deodorant

Numerous brands.

It's important to change them as your body builds immunity.

I too get them from the UK. If any one pitches up to stay they don't come in without deoderant. I just can't use these roll on's that those girly Canadian men use.

Great Thread.

I don't bother with it and I don't smell that much. And even if I did I wouldn't care, it would at least keep people from sitting next to me on the bus. That is if I ever caught the bus; which I would do, but the problem with using public transport is that the other people on it tend to be a bit smelly and also poor.

This is very much my approach too. But I'd add that I'd prefer to sit next to a smelly person on the bus than to sit in the same room as someone using deodorants.

It is important to switch to winter deodorant, when the temperature drops below 7C for optimum performance. Or so they tell me.

Re: Deodorant

I also hate the roll on stuff. My mum came over in September with a case full of chocolate for my hubby, boxes of stuffing mix and Sure deopdrant for me:D
I have also asked for deodrant for christmas - how sad is that:rofl:

As far as I'm concerned I'm using the same sort of Gillette Gel thingies that I used in the UK.

Re: Deodorant

I use Secret Solid. No one I know uses roll ons or spray.

mandymoochops Nov 6th 2011 3:49 pm

Re: Deodorant

All joking aside while men might not care too much, from my experience in general women used spray ons, I did - Sure deodourant and Impulse body spray.

When my daughter came over I stole her 4 pack of Impulse.

Now use whatever I decide smells the niceat at the time of buying - and yes it's the push up sticks and yes I hate them and yes I'd love some Sure and Impulse for Xmas too. :(

It's one of those things that whilst you think "oh shit this sucks" you get used to whatevers here - doesn't mean you can't hanker for what you were used to for 25 years of your life.

Souvy Nov 6th 2011 10:41 pm

Re: Deodorant

I use unscented antiperspirants. I will sweat if I don't. I prefer sprays, like Secret.

One could, of course, go the chemist and get some high-strength aluminium chloride hexahydrate. It's the same stuff used in regular antiperspirants but in a much higher concentration.

I had hyperhydrosis as a teen. It mattered not how much regular stuff I used, my armpits were always soaked. I think it became psychological. The doctor gave me some turbocharged stuff. It broke the vicious circle in a couple of days. You simply don't sweat with that stuff. Itches a bit, though.

Yeah, the winter deodorants contain anti-freeze. Otherwise, imagine how difficult it would be to get on in our daily lives with our arms clamped down by our sides. Maybe one could take up Riverdancing ;)

Re: Deodorant

During summer i dont use any as some sprays atract mozzies. I do however shower two to three times a day, using none scented soap. I also work alone in my vehicle and out doors, and have no one to smell me. Lol.

Yeh i get stinky on hot days. But they aint made a spray that will stop me from sweating and keep cool in a red hot car in mid summer.

Re: Deodorant

Seeing as there are some serious elements to this thread...

I use the soft solids, don't like sticky roll ons', don't like the solid solid and why anyone would want to spray freezing cold stuff on their nice warm body (armpits) is beyond me.

I will buy DD Impulse (we have discussed this already) when we are back in the UK as the body sprays here are really artificial and all you can smell is the chemicals.

I use the stuff that attracts all the hot wimmin. Axe I think it's called. It really works like the commercials*

Re: Deodorant

I have to confess that I don't use deodorant. I haven't for about a year, and I don't notice the difference, and I'm very cleanliness conscious. But then I don't perspire much and shower frequently...

I know what you mean about dying the tops yellow. In fact I have refused to buy eldest daughter anymore white tops as they seem to go really yucky with any deodorant here and end up in the bin after a couple of months.:frown:

I always used Sure in the UK and now use solid Lady Speed Stick. It's ok and does the job, guess I've got used to it now.

Re: Deodorant

I always used spray stuff back in the UK, but as you can't get here it here, I switched to roll on. I tried the speed sticks and they just gave me a horrible rash. I get Soft & Gentle roll on imported from the UK, or get visitors to bring me loads. I'm good for about the next 2 years :)
I've tried lots of different deodorants since being here but don't seem to be able to find one that doesn't make me itch (I have an allergy to some preservatives in toiletries and cosmetics).

Bodyshop UK do a really nice roll on that dries quickly and doesn't contain any aluminium, which is why I decided to try it.

Comes in blue - chilled and breezy, pink- fresh and floral and green - cool and zesty. Also available in a stick if you prefer.

Hope Bodyshop in Canada stock them too.

I'm using am aluminum free one at the minute called Soft and Dry.

I thought I was the only one who had deodorant issues. :D

In the UK I always used Sure spray on and have always hated any kind of roll ons.. here i'm having to use those hard stick ones and i've been using Degree which I asumed was Sure as it has the same tick on the front. Works well too:thumbup:

Re: Deodorant

Are some people using deodorant and some using antiperspirant? There is a difference, right?

Antiperspirant actually stops you from perspiring and deodorant masks the sweaty smell but your pits can still be damp. Or am I wrong?

Maybe deodorant doesn't have aluminum but antiperspirant does?

Deodorant is just perfume.

The aluminium in antiperspirants reacts with the skin and effectively blocks the pores, so sweat can't get out.

Nobody needs to use smelly antiperspirants.

Re: Deodorant

Ok so I have been to the Bodyshop and made a purchase for $5 for deodorant. How much is it in England?
I am slightly (very) outraged right now. There is a Aloe face pack there, you know the kind - teeeny weeeeeny bottles of moisturiser, cleanser etc etc in cute bag that had UK and US/Canada price tag on it. Its GBP12 (sorry no pound sign on this keyboard) and $25 in US/Canada.
Do the peeps at Bodyshop honestly believe you earn double in Canada than you do in the UK???!! I wont be buying it!

£2.50 in UK or £2.00 for a refill. At todays exchange rate it works out £3.08, so not double but more expensive!

Still reasonable for a deodorant I think, but hope everything else is not more expensive over there:eek:

They can be sneaky and duplicitous bastards over here. Happened to me with a tube of wasabi paste. Was over double price. Although we did buy it as the wife is allergic to chocolate. But still. :frown:

But to me the exchange rate is irrelevant as we earn dollars and spend dollars

What about people that have to work with you or those in the queue with you at any point in time?

I personally use the clear (non scented) ones, considering the amount of time I spend away with work in the not so desirable environments at times.
