I have written a strongly worded email to Bodyshop asking why they think we earn double here. No doubt it will get me absolutely nowhere but I feel better and I have been able to tell them that I will NOT be purchasing their products anymore (no matter how much coconut and lime they stick in it)

When I started working here, part of my contract said that I wasn't supposed to use scented deodorants, since I work with the public and I thought it was totally exaggerated. They have these scent-free policies all over the place, especially in hospitals. http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/hspro...cent_free.html

Now I've got so used to using scent-free shampoo and deodorant that when I visited Europe I noticed that the smell of perfume had a nauseating effect on me...

PS> in summer there is an additional bonus of scent-free cosmetics: mosquitoes and flies usually swarm those people who use perfumed products, ( especially hairspray and conditioners ) and leave me alone

Am I the only one who thinks this thread should be merged with the Occupy uprising thread?

That brings to mind the time myself and a Brit girl-friend went to the city and were delighted to see a Bodyshop. In we walked expecting similar to UK prices and products we knew.

Well we found the products we knew, but at triple and even quadruple prices.

When we questioned the shop girl - who turned out to be Italo-American, her explanation was that "beauty conscious women in Italy are used to spending money and would never believe that a 2 euro product could work because cheap means nasty and hopeless."

We were amazed that they didn't have products and advertising aimed at the student market given that we were in a Uni city, and not just snobby Italian women.

They have replied to say that different markets have different prices (oh really?) and that they have to pay to import the goods. Wow - thats expensive import costs.
Naturally I paid tax on top here, but the GBP2.50 deodorant has tax included in England.... ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

oh well - time to search out an alternative

Write back and tell them that their super high prices on the Italian market didn't work as that shop has since closed. If only they'd kept to the same ideal and targeted the student body, then the mums would have come along and word would have passed around and Il Bodyshop said with an awful Italian accent would at least have become an everyday beauty product. Idiots. I could have done better marketing and pubblicity with my eyes shut and my tongue cut off.

They can smell you - and sometimes some people really stink.

But of course - if one doesn't care then it's just their nasal problem. Right?

I wouldn't care, but then again I'm not a smelly person. Soap usually does the trick for me.

I did reply that a 100% markup did not justify an import cost and highlighted the tax included in the UK part too. No doubt I will hear nothing back now, makes me savage how companies try to rip off people if they think they can get away with it.

At least the Body shop does US$ pricing equivalents and not mark it up even more just because we are in Canada, like some companies I know.

The markets are different here, it does mean some (lots of )stuff costs more - you wait 'til you see the price of cucumbers in February:rofl: It's life, you just get on with it:rolleyes:

Oh I have seen those prices. Yes it is life but doesnt mean that we have to lie back and accept it without saying we dont agree

What are you going to do about it then? Out of curiosity. Start protesting? Refuse to buy?

In the store I work in, the prices all went up, we were told that if the customers complain, we are to explain that due to the recession, costs have gone up, therefore prices have risen, instead of cutting quality. Companies will come up with any plausible excuse.

The mind boggles at how a recession causes prices to increase or how customers accept that as a plausible excuse;)

Yeah I know, HO thinks it sounds good though. Some customers fall for it. I personally think it's because Canadians are just used to paying more so they (companies) fleece them more.

I read somewhere that the average spend per head was $100 more or so than in the USA - there is your answer there really - they have more disposable money - lets make them spend it:thumbdown:
