this is true for all foods, as local ingrediants and tastes of the local population will influnence how food evolves. the reality is that Indian Food in the UK is a kin to Tex-mex in the US or Sushi and Chinese food in Vancouver. Also in the UK, there's a huge Bangladeshi influence on the EI food there.

I spent a fair bit of time in southern india and the food is nothing like what you get in the UK.

Me too. I've even had to buy a Indian cookbook to see if I can do better than the crap you get here.

Honestly, Canadians seem to have the worse taste in food and will put up with really crap stuff. Mexican food here is dreadful but the place near me has a line outside most nights.

Yes. Stepho's leaves me scratching my head- the worst greek food I have had.

Pound for pound Vancouver has some decent places for food though.

It has some decent sushi places and few higher end places but in general I find restaurant stuff to be dreadful but they seem to love it here. And what is this 'family style' stuff all about?

Green Lettuce Restaurant was a solid tip! You should all get together and get take-out from there tonight and post a review tomorrow. I think then we might hear something positive. In Regina we have more restaurants per capita than most places, and competition doesn't always weed out the bad ones. Not soon enough anyway, but there are a lot of good ones - but I really wish we had Green Lettuce here; I'd be there tonight.

While there are plenty of bad restaurants here, i don't agreee that they are in general dreadful. Quite the opposite. There is a very good range of eateries here at all price points and overall for reasonably priced. Impressive for a small city.

I was in teh UK this spring and most cities in the UK I was at have a very unimpressive range of places to eat, beyond scores of Indians, chinese take aways kebabs, endless pubs serving much the same fare and something exotic for colour, such as an Italian or a Mexican there's not much else.
