My missus left her expensive sunglasses on the roof of the car in Ottawa airport several years ago, in a high-traffic area. They were still there four days later when we got back. Many people must have seen them.

Continuing the car-roof theme, she also once forgot that she had put her purse there. It fell off at the first corner but was returned to us intact.

I somehow left my wallet on the bus a couple of weeks ago.
I was able to pick it up from the bus station that evening, as it had been handed in. Nothing was missing.

We've also gone to bed with the garage open on a couple of occasions (accidentally) and not had any problems.

I've had my wallet returned intact by complete strangers on two occasions. One called me, the other brought it around in person.

This is interesting to read, I arrive in four weeks and read this today which I was surprised at as I thought Chilliwack and surrounding was pretty safe?

Well, your wallet containing something with your name and address...and a couple of imprisoned moths is unlikely to encourage felonious thoughts....they probably felt sorry for you and made a donation.......cunning plan!

Gangsters have to live somewhere dont they? I dont think it makes Chilliwak a worse place just by association.

Where there is serious crime in Canada its often gang related, and is usually self contained due to that. It can spill over sometimes though.

Crime is more or less the same here as in the UK. If you feel safer here it's because the UK media has brainwashed you into thinking it was worse than it actually was.

We haven't had chavs setting parked cars on fire here yet.

Most of the crime around where we live seems to be people stealing construction supplies from the new houses being built.

Well, not really. In the UK I knew many people who had been the victims of car crimes, vandalism, theft. Here I dont know any.

Im cynical enough to take the media with a pinch of salt, but personal experience is harder to ignore.

We have had the occasional smashing of bus shelter glass to the point they removed the shelter.

We have a drug dealer who uses the parking lot across the street at night.

On the other hand we have left our garage door open all night cars unlocked more than once, nothing happened. Our neighbor held a garage sale over two days he left all the stuff out on tables overnight no one took anything.

Thats why i asked for crime that had efected yourself in your area and not just media and tv reported crime.

For me, i have had several cars stolen and broken into in the uk, my house and garage robbed, my motor cycle biz robbed. Just the stuff i remember over the last 6-7 years all in london, blackpool and manchester.

I would disagree...my own perceptions are based on my own personal experiences, both here and in the UK. Bugger all to to with the UK media....

You have to ignore it.

You can all think and perceive what you like - the actual reality is that crime rates here are more or less the same as in the UK. Obviously there is less crime in total because Canada has half the population of the UK.

Typical blinkered view.
