Here it is called Jiggs Dinner and is accompanied by cabbage, turnip and carrot boiled for many hours with salt beef until it is salty mush. I'm not a fan...

I miss the diversity of 'foreign' foody bits that I don't get here. Those lovely jars of lotus flowers in syrup that you can pop in the bottom of white wine, those amazing smoked fishy things, that are great for canapes, the IKEA fish pastes (not enough population here for an IKEA). I miss Lakeland and all the special little gifts they do. I want to be able to eat 'strange' foods that I've never had before, because that's what I do at Christmas. I want more than "Duck Pate" and I want to buy Brik pastry, not filo..... I should have moved somewhere with a bigger populace...my bad!

I bought the plum pudding from Loblaws to try, it was "on sale" for $9.99. It had better be good!

Re: Christmas Cake & other goodies
Every year I go to a local Christmas craft fair where an English lady sells excellent traditional Christmas pudding (with rum and stout) and chocolate rum fruitcake. I hand over my cash and joyfully head home with my goodies. Job done

These sound great, the sort of thing my Mum would enjoy while she is here. I've never heard of this before. I've found hibiscus flowers online, which I'm hoping will be similar. Ordinary white wine or sparkling?

Chocolate fruit cake? Never heard of that before, but I see plenty of google results.

Re: Christmas Cake & other goodies
Despite the name "plum pudding," the pudding contains no actual plums due to the pre-Victorian use of the word "plums" as a term for raisins.
"This is a fairly basic British Christmas plum pudding recipe but unlike other recipes it can actually have plums in it."
