I vaguely knew his daughter Lucy (an old schoolfriend of a former girlfriend), but never met Hawking himself. I'd have loved to: by all accounts he was a very genuine and very funny man, albeit extraordinarily single-minded to the point that he could come across as brusque or even rude if he was busy thinking of something else. |
