It's not just the points that count but the turnover. Having a pick die allows one to jump on to a well publicized imminent death. For example, I seemed to have an unassailable lead in this year's Gruan death pool but then Castro croaked and I didn't have him. My nearest competitor did and so was able to choose A.A. Gill. Now we're neck and neck. Big deaths are great but churn is valuable too.

I had Kirk Douglas on mine and he had his 100th the other day.

Do I get to pay some sort of forfeit for that?

Yes, you have to walk round stark naked with a plate laden with Yorkshire puddings and bread sauce is smeared on your chops

Damn, I debated sticking in Zsa Zsa just in case she croaked by the end of the year but decided not to in the end. Boo!

I'll be getting the 2017 sheet and thread up in the next few days as well, FYI.

dbd you should partake in this one this year as well! :)

Not weird really. I always 'heard' blue but it didn't sound likely so I assumed Bloom. I mean, who's called Blue? It would have to be someone in showbiz

Anglicised version of the original family name apparently.

I rather liked his lighthearted, but sometimes subversive, take on religion/life. RIP.

ETA: he recorded his own obituary :)
