Right, don't start having a dig at the so-called 'English footy hooligans' because compared to some of the French, Dutch, Italian & Turkish fans, and not to mention the animal like fans of certain South American teams, the English fans are positively angelic!
And so as bad a the reputation of English footy fans may have been....I don't ever recall cars being overturned and set on fire. That said.....I completely agree with your second comment that it's no excuse for that kind of behavior over a lost game......whatever the sport. |

Re: Canucks lost - vancouver riots!
I see there's been a lot of looting at The Bay, Sears, Future Shop...Etc. Couple of stabbings, fights, burning cars, and most probably littering.
You wouldn't get this in the Cotswolds  |
Re: Canucks lost - vancouver riots!
Theoretically I wanted a riot but my middle classness has kicked in and now its just a bit sad.

Well in my 35 years of going to matches in the UK I can't ever recall anyone being killed in the UK as a result of football violence (though I'm open to being proved wrong). The only significant deaths I'm aware of are from the Hillsborough tragedy and the Bradford disaster....both non-violence related. And I think you'll find that if you were to do a google search on the subject of football(soccer) violence, you would find that it is not something that is particular to English fans....but in fact happens the world over. My point was that in comparison to fans of many other countries, some of which I mentioned in my previous post, the English are by no means the worst offenders of football violence. |

At least it'll give the local news channels something to sensationalize for the next three months.
