In Britain we have what's known as rose veal (apparently much more humane) , if male calves are not used for veal then they are slaughtered at a matter of days old as they have no further use ie. milk production (obviously) On the continent created veal is still consumed regularly unfortunately :( |

I know what you're saying - if we don't agree with veal (a lot of British veal calves are sent to the continent) we should give up cows milk in the hope of stopping calves being used for veal.

Myself, my gutteral reaction, is 'ugh, I hate it' but it's not as simplistic as that. Plus... as a west coaster I think... "effing east coasters..." ;) |

During my latest trip to Africa (I work there) I had to sit and watch helpless(still on the aircraft) as several young guys chased and then beat to death a dog ,using rocks, sticks etc..That animal did not die easy. No stories in the 'international press' , no uproar....just business as usual .....for there.

veal is just beef slaughted around the age of six months or less about the same age as lamb. if we want the vast amount of dairy milk we currently consume, veal is the necessary, but not too evil (in the case of rose veal) outcome.
