Ah right - with you there!! my old hound broke a leg in the park - tripped in a rabbit burrow as he was bounding along - he was a big boy - took me a while to get him back to the car!!!

Our dog had got at it, it was damaged and seemed likely to suffer more if I did nothing.

Bingo:)

Living in the country among farmers, it soon becomes obvious that they dont like groundhogs. (not that I am comparing dbd with them!...I dont think even know of the existence of London Pride let alone drink it)

Groundhogs might not have the best road sense, but its nowhere near bad enough to account for the amount of groundhog roadkill you see.

Having said that, back when I lived in Norwich, one of my hockey team mates was a spud farmer, and he used to scare the bejezus out of us by taking his large Daihatsu SUV thing a few feet off road at alarming speed while driving us to away games if it meant he could reduce the rabbit population as a result.

You're not wrong. They are a threat to horses and farm machinery and, for that reason, land owners often shoot them. There's even a curious form of hunting that has yahoos driving around fields shooting at them from trucks and four wheelers. In this case though it was just to put it out of its misery.

Yep Norfolk girl here too (did you see that about the sheep in Wells - sickening) lamping is common, but here they all go and kill gophers for fun. They are cute furry etc etc etc but a nuisance so guys here shoot them for sport and to control them. (well try anyway)it happens and its rural life, is someone gonna come and camp out to stop that - I doubt it - double standards and all boils down to what others have said earlier, media coverage and how much kudos you get for supporting a particular cause.

My new hound (well newer he is 5)

came running out of the woods with a fox in his mouth last summer and proceeded to run around the main bit of field that lots of happy families were having picnics in !!!

Lots of hysterical kids etc!!

Eventually he dropped it at my feet - mmm yum - I could see the fleas jumping off it - Dilema - nothing with me like a stick or spade so cant put it out of its misery (and probably would have baulked at having to hit it any way) not gonna touch it in case it savages me - also v mangey . . . . . .

answerr- slink away sheepsihly whilst telling my kids that it was dead really - (hmm eyes open - still breathing!!) 13 yr old saying NO its not!!

sent hubbby over later to deal with it - it was gone by then!!

Okay, okay.....I know nothing about whoever he is...dbd33, was it?

Actually, I've just read his reply, and he says one of his dogs got it....nothing to do with his horses.

How on earth do you manage to get close enough? I have to shoot the little buggers.

I've been spared having to go after the groundhogs by the farmer behind us; he pays for a hillbilly to come and blast them.

Surely any self-respecting hillbilly would do it for nothing!
