its true about the hand luggage, folk beside me we'rent even allowed an extra bag of toys for the baby. They looked really helpful with buggys and stuff packing them away for the families at the gate, maybe that was just them being nice.
Our food was quite nice except for the hot scrambled egg breakfast considering im allergic to egg!! never mind my roll was yummy.
As youve already said you get what you pay for.
Happy trip!!!

P.S - Immigration are scary folk. The young pretty girl demanded new passport photos of both me and my partner, saying that his had a shadow on his ear - seriously it was only just visible to the naked eye and she accused me of having a scar on my lips - which I don't, it was just the way my lips had closed together - eek!. so make sure there are absolutely NO imperfection on your piccis. Also she couldn't find our details on the system, which was super scary - no thanks to the incompentant individuals at the embassy! Anyway that's a whole other storey!

They must have recently changed as we're flying on tickets purchased through them in late December, returning January. Outbound (to UK) is Monarch and return is Air Transat.

We flew Heathrow to Toronto with Air Transat this weekend past.
We upgraded to Club Class for £160 each especially for the 40 kg each allowance, plus the 15 kg hand baggage allowance, giving us 110 kg - very much needed as we were moving here. We also had some excess which was charged at their standard rate of £3.50 per kilo which is way less than the other airlines.
The flight left early (15mins) and arrived early too. We were very happy with enough legroom and comfy chairs. The aircrew were wonderful - friendly and attentive. The meals were fine - not bad for airline food.
We have flown 1st class with Air Cananda a few times and that is way better, and WAAAAY more expensive - I will happily fly Air Transat Club Class again.
Rob.

I've never had any problems with Canadian Affair.

Actually , sorry just realised. You're flying Canada to Uk return. Yes you can fly from Canada to UK in winter but not UK to Canada. Thought the OP was UK to Canada.

We're flying with Canadian Affiar next month - booked through the Air Transat website (instant purchase tickets, slightly cheaper). We've flown with them before, they were OK. If you don't have headphones though I think you have to pay for them but you do get to keep them and use on the return flight! Now just need to remember where we put them!

We've used them a few times, to TO, Calgary and Vancouver, maybe we were just lucky, but each time had a pretty good experience. Try and book the exit seats for a bit of extra leg room. Found the Thomas Cook flight to TO was the best of all, but generally no complaints.
Just remembered, the only problem we did have was when we had to cancel once as my OH had a terrible accident and was not able to travel. They were pretty unsympathetic, and wouldn't refund, but we did buy the cheapest tickets and it was made clear at time of booking it was non refundable. Just something to be wary of.
Have a good flight!

Only thing is the luggage allowance is slightly lower, then again, I'm only going for a week, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Hi
I think with Air Transat it depends on what time of the year you fly we flew in August and it was very overbooked, very slow check in and not very patient air stewards, one actually pushed my daughter out of her way! However that said I flew with them in May last year and they were like a different company smooth check in, and very helpful air side.
One word of warning, because we all wanted to sit together we booked our seats to and from Vancouver, they did not in anyway inform me that the seats I had booked on the way out did not recline an inch! VERY uncomfortable on a 9/10 flight! I was annoyed because I had paid extra for them
Over all they are okay if you remember they are budget not premium, if you can go B.A. I flew with them in Feb this year and they were excellent nothing too much trouble. They were not much more or the same as the lower cost air lines because they were having a sale.
Hope this helps

Never. Again.
You can only take one bag on as carry on, not even a laptop or camera bag aswell.
They lied about the cost of overage and refused to agree to the price on the carrier's web site.
I had to wait over an hour to get my luggage in Pearson, and had to find my luggage at Manchester on return to the UK, after they didn't put it on the conveyors, we got off the plane and found our luggage around the sides of the room.
Crappy food, no space in cabin and generally bad service.

Also the moving of luggage to and from the planes isn't done by Canadian Affair/Thomas Cook staff, it is done by the airports baggage handlers, so where your luggage is put or the length of time it takes to appear is not the airlines responsibility.
We have flown with Zoom and Canadian Affair and found them both comparable. Neither had seat back TV's but we did get a bottle of water given to us. OH is flying with Air Canada next month, so we shall see what he says about them.

I have flown many times, most times First Class, and I have experienced lost luggage, very slow Baggage Offloading, extremely long flight delays, etc etc.
It is the luck of the draw, most of the time the carrier is at the mercy of the Airport and its' staff.
Never land at TO after 11.30p.m, it will take you hours to get your baggage, they go down to one crew for all flights.
