I note that cars appear to be up to 25% cheaper in Onterio than BC. What is the proces of paying the necessary taxes and registration in BC. Thanks for the help.fletch

And probably a lot rustier. Not worth the effort and if there is a price difference i would imagine it is due to higher mileage.

No, not the case, unless they are rust buckets for some reason.. Open up the above and then click BC top right.
The prices are just not even close.

By the time all the inconvenience and costs of getting to ON to pick it up and get it back its hardly worth the bother. Also, not sure how you would register and insure it to bring it back, unless you do it on a trailer. You may want to go into a service BC office and ask.

You pay the tax at the same time as registration at service BC. Out of province vehicles sell for less than comparable BC vehicles when you come to get rid. Out of province is a bit like accelerated depreciation after an accident, a lot of buyers are more cautious and expect to pay less.

Is it not possible to arrange insurance for a car once you have bought it, one that is valid for the whole of canada? Then you could drive it back - albeit in a few days.

But it's bullshit innit? I've driven cars of various ages in Ontario since 1982 (on and off) and I've never once had any rust whatsoever. In fact the last time I drove a rust bucket was in Southern California, and the time before that in the UK.
Cars are better protected now. And the salt is much more refined.

So it would seem there is no logical reason for cars to be cheaper in Ont, they just are. seems folk don't want to save themselves a few grand. Strange..

Is it really worth the hassle of going from BC to Ontario to look at vehicles and then ship them back? It'll be a minimum of a 2 day trip, so flight, hotel and rental car while you're there, then shipping costs or move travel expense and hotels if you're driving it home yourself. You wouldn't save a bean, and as Aviator pointed out, would then own a care that's depreciating faster than local vehicles just because it's from out of province.
Would you travel across 3 time zones in Europe to buy a car?
