My suggestion to those who heven't had the experience, go out, find an empty parking lot and learn how to control your vehicle properly before taking to the roads.
Just get out there and enjoy the challenge.
Which of these wasn't helpful or advice?

As I said ENJOY the challenge.

If you had just posted the sentences that you have selected from your posts then that would have been fine, and helpful, thank you, but you didn't. Your original posts, repeated here in their entirity show those comments along with snidey little digs, which rather stops them from being constructive criticism. You chose to be selective about your quotes and this shows that you realise that they were less than positive.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess it depends on who you are as to how easily you take offence about things and how one can focus entirely on certain aspects of a post. Discussion closed on my part, please feel free to have won any arguement. Merry Christmas!

Everybody's driving experience is different, if Fledermaus had rally driving experience then she'd be as confident driving in snow as GavinR. I have 20years driving experience in the UK but very little of that was driving in deep snow so even my first winter I had to learn new skills.

For some people, it takes a lot of confidence to even practice the driving in snow, especially using techniques which can be different to how we're used to driving. Each of us drives according to our ability, and getting there or back safely is the only thing that matters, not whether someone is driving slower than the person behind them thinks they should.

Patience not hospital patients.

please?

No real advice as I still haven't plucked up the courage to drive in the snow.

But I just wanted to say that I understand how you are terrified.

I was involved in a nasty car accident before we emigrated, and it left me totally and utterly terrified of cars, of being in a car, of even being near cars that had the engine running (I was officially diagnosed as having both PTSD and an anxiety disorder involving cars). 3 odd years later, lots of counselling and hypnotherapy, and I am still very nervous about cars, but I can now travel in one without freaking and I am learning to drive..... But I am terrified of being involved in another accident.

Hopefully you will be able to overcome your fear of skidding etc.

I am quite happy about driving on snow this year; I even enjoy a slight drift as I glide around corners .... but when the roads turn really icy I still find it most frightening driving downhill if there is a traffic light up ahead which I know is likely to turn amber before I get there ......

You have my sympathies, for what it's worth Batty! The best advice is still to try to accelerate or brake as gently as possible, and effectively to do neither when you are cornering.

Last December we sent our daughter on an AMA winter driving course. It consisted of a lesson in the classroom followed a week later by one on an old airstrip where the instructor put them into skids and showed them how to handle the car. I think she found it vey helpful/useful but very frightening at the time but hopefully she is now better equipped to handle the winter driving conditions.

We also have winter tires on her car, they have more grip but they dont stopped you from sliding around!

My advice, just drive at the speed that you are comfortable with.
