I find it easier to steer the faster I go up to a point, as the momentum keeps the car moving through the smaller snowdrifts. I came home last night doing 75kph on the 401 without sliding once. On the side roads I slowed to 50kph and kept extra distance between me and the vehicles in front.
The worst part was the off/on ramps where the plows had blocked them by pushing the snow across them. I saw dozens of stuck vehicles in them.

Far from, I constantly moan at the wife for driving to close. There's a big difference being capable of driving quickly in varying conditions and driving dangerously.
My rally driving days hold me in good stead to be able to control a car in the snow and ice. My suggestion to those who heven't had the experience, go out, find an empty parking lot and learn how to control your vehicle properly before taking to the roads.
As I said ENJOY the challenge.

I'm here. Phew
Our road was bad, not ploughed, and had to batter over the rill at the end of the road to get onto a plowed one. Then slowly into work on ploughed non slushy road. The roads in town were nasty though, heaps of slush and snow all over the place.
Still I am here, thanks for the support, it helped.

Plenty of nervous drivers and overconfident drivers on the roads round here today. Most people were keeping their distance but sadly not everybody. One slip can (and has) take out several vehicles at a time so driving within your capabilities is important but will not necessarily always save you. No doubt the carnage on the roads will be all over the local papers and I am thankful to be home for the holidays in one piece, no matter how comfortable I feel with my equipment and skills.
