I would guess more of our clothing is made in sweat shops then we will ever know.
Four wrongs do not make a right. The matter of offshore slave labour has raised its ugly head many time over the years in North America with celebrity labels being involved. It is the obligation of companies such as Primark to ensure such behaviour is not tolerated. The company in Manchester should be investigated by the appropriate UK authority and closed down if necessary.

I may need to clarify

I see places such as LA and New York, Chicago and a few others as in step and fashionable..
However I see places like Clarion PA just as unfashionable as say Woodstock ON,
Places like Dallas as fashionably challenged as Calgary

On the fashion stakes like for like places we are the same as the US, not a huge surprise

This is North America people don’t care about cheap labour
It’s what keeps Wal-Mart ticking
Many well regarded chains in North America use sweat shops
One brand ‘that I know about’ popular in Canada is the Mountain Equipment Co-op (who’s gear I reckon is overrated) still uses sweat shops known to use child labour, but nobody talks about it as its a nice Canadian business and they’d only do that because they had to, their excuses were; they couldn’t get staff at minimum wages in Canada so they had to ship the work overseas and had to use sweat shops to be competitive
You don’t have to dig to deep to find dirt on big brands here,
You pay for what you get; cheap stuff is either crap, or made by people treated like crap
Welcome to North America every thing is so reasonable.

I just got a suit from Moores, pure wool, made in Canada, less than $300. Pretty good I'd say since I've got other suits bought in the UK for £300 that were sweatshop specials. I noticed also that the "designer" ones (Calvin Klien I think) were also made in Canada, unlike in the UK where they are all from Thailand/Bangladesh/etc. Some benefits to unionisation I guess.

You have to be careful here as Made In Canada is not the same as Made in UK North American rules differ quiet a lot from the more stringent European one
“because under current Canadian law, if 51 per cent of the production costs were incurred in Canada and the last substantial transformation of the product occurred in Canada, it is legal to use those labels”

In the case of clothing it often means that all the fabrics came form abroad and the final cutting of and stitching was done locally, in foods it's just as bad everything is grown abroad its just the final packing thats done here
Don’t forget the corporate overheads will also be rolled into those production costs

No one seems to give a toss about "High-Fashion" here in Winnipeg, or even "Fashion".

I could wear clean jeans and a nice shirt and be comfortable and not look under dressed ANYWHERE in the City.

I think the same goes for Calgary but then most expect us Calgarians to be uncouth.

Fashion is vastly over rated IMHO.

Me too. You will find that the ones that bemoan the lack of fashion etc. in Canada are probably the same that complain about the UK being too materialistic

I think this TV show and the 2 hosts are highly over rated...they make me give up the will to care one iota about fashion.....

To me, it is highly personal what is fashionable and it is highly subjective to the whims of those who want to push their latest product.

The Canadian Place makes clothes that actually don't wear out before the child outgrows them, in our experience. Since they don't need school uniforms here, it's pretty casual at school, jeans or fleece track pants in winter, so I get a lot of their stuff at Zellers or Sears Clearance. Loblaws has a "Joe" range which is similar to Walmart's "George" but with a slightly better quality and better for your conscience if you dislike Walmart's policies.

You can get reduced price "labels" clothing at Winners (which is owned by the same company as TK MAXX in the UK). But I stick to the regular store brands for my sons, I would never buy regular priced "designer" for children, why should they get to wear it when I can't afford it for myself LOL.
