Best shops?
 

Can anyone tell me the best place to shop in Canada- literally down to the street in an area? Where does everyone go to for good, designer clothes? Or is the market quite limited for this kind of thing?

Also, for kids clothes, is there a Next/Monsoon equivalent vs a Primark/Tesco equiv? Or would you suggest stocking up before going for the kids?

Where in Canada are you going to be living? It could make a big difference.
If you live in Toronto for example you won't have any problem finding a good range of clothes.

For kids stuff I like Old Navy and H&M there isn't really anything as cheap as Primark but Zellers is reasonable.

I don't know anyone that worries about the need for 'designer clothes'. I'm not even sure I know what criteria makes a piece of clothing 'designer'?

Stocking up seems daft, Canadian kids seem to cope without having to specially import clothing from the UK.

In Toronto the more high end designer stores are in the Yorkville area (Yonge and Bloor), not that I ever set foot in any of them;)

Also for discount designer stuff there is Winners the North American version of TKMaxx.

I would also like to know the answer to this. In Canada I think the centre for women's fashion is probably Montreal, where the women are regarded as dressing very well. Toronto's Bloor/Yorkville has many very high-end ladies' wear outlets with prices out of the reach of most.

I always saw plenty of clothing in Walmart and, particularly, Giant Tiger for Primark style prices.....jeans for $10, 3-in-1 winter coats for $25 to $30, T-Sirts for $2 or $3, PJ pants for $5....

Both Zellers stores here are virtually empty every time I call in. Are they a 'front' for something else?:sneaky:

Where in Canada are you talking about? It's a big country - British Columbia alone is nearly 4 times larger than the entire UK. There are thousands of places to buy clothing, but the available choices will vary greatly by region.

I also see little point in stocking up on children's clothing... what for?

I never did like going into Zellers near where I lived in Toronto I found it kinda depressing but it was within walking distance so it had it's uses. BTW I don't think there are any Giant Tiger stores in Toronto.

Agree - was in Montreal at the weekend and felt like putting a paper bag over my head when I went out, I felt very under-dressed! :eek:

Given the region specific nature of style and trends and fashionable labels, I cant help feeling sorry for the hard time any kids are going to get for wearing the latest London fashions and labels in Toronto:ohmy:
