with you on this one. I know of plenty of families that dont work as they get more money from the social than they can hope to make working. so alot of them keep banging out babies that everyone else pays for.
What gets me is i was in a similar position myself where me and husband were living on under £100 a week for a while when he had an accident while a family member was working so was his wife (parttime teaching assistant) got family credit and £400 a month maintenance. Apparently they told me maintance is not included in your income! when they work out family credit. :curse: To me personally i think some fathers are asked to pay to much and some get a way with paying none at all, like my :curse: ex. I got £15 a week (yes he was working) then he decided to disappear and even though i gave the CSA exact locations and work addresses for him when they were supplied to me they dropped the case after a few years as they said they could never track him down! I think the problem here is she seems to be 'earning' more in benefits/wages then a normal working person would or am i getting it wrong  Hi Jempee Thats was what I was getting at, not only is she encouraged not to work full time she abviously likes to rub my buddies face in it with all the new stuff she can afford. I had a young couple in today one earning £22k one earning £19k but there net joint household income was less than hers. It just doesn't stack up to me. Really struggling to get on the housing ladder as well quite sad really, but thats a whole other topic. |

Are you saying that no one should ever take the benefits? Is it ok for the disabled child to live on benefits after the parents are dead or bankrupt?

But is it wrong of her, indeed wrong of anyone, to take state benefits related to their children? |

Im sorry i dont remember saying that no one should take the benefits ;) all i was saying was that i didnt feel i could warrant taking those benefits myself. My sister does nothing different to what i had to do yet she gets extra money, in my eyes its not warranted.

If its warranted in day to day help that you are unable to give your child then perhaps you need to take the benefit other than that im afraid to many people milk the system out of money. Seen it to many times im afraid, the only people benefiting out of the money is the parents and there luxuries. |

But it's offered so she takes it. Most people do. It seems to me that the only advantage in not taking the benefits offered is that one can then moan about people who do take them.

I think it's wrong to milk the system, I guess your point will be that the governments fault which is true, The problem I have is, that many now seem to see what they can get and now know the best way to milk it. If we all thought like this where would it lead? It really is a bain of contention in the UK with many people, I kinda feel that most of us have the same opportunity's. There is no way in my mind it's right what some people get. Children are not cheap I agree, but should a family with both partners working full time be worse of than others who work less and but are financially better off? |

Once on this thread but you often mention the child. Why you should be sensitive about that is lost on me, presumably having a handicapped child is the central fact of your life. That you have/had such a child is all I know about you from previous postings. It would be interesting to know the nature of the handicap and why you chose not to take the government's financial assistance.

To me its unnecessary for her to take those benefits. Obviously in this case i know what she does need to do for her child. The only saving grace for her is that this money is going into a separate account for that child to use for luxuries! like school holidays etc that my sister can not afford. Now to me that money is given for day to day help with looking after that child???

I also have a child with a disability. I never received or asked for any benefits. My sister has a child with the same disability and is receiving extra benefits for her. They are all handouts. |
Re: Benefits in the UK for single Mums
Children don't have Disabilities, they have Challenges.
