If you set up an account with UK Nova you can download the torrent within hours of it being shown in the UK.

Is there a problem with UK Nova....I haven't had any and their choice of shows is good.

Sure thing, English tea at the very least please :)
There was a recent article on BBC news where one of the top blokes in charge of the iPlayer service said that there were plans to make the iPlayer available Worldwide, without any localisation restrictions. We can keep our fingers crossed on this.

Good luck with the move.

Found an interesting thread on the BBC forums:

I just got iPlayer running :)

If I can reproduce it on another machine here, I'll let you know how it's done ;)

Please please pretty please - step by step idiot proof instructions would be WONDERFUL! I would bring you loads of English tea, chocolate and anything else you're missing when I move over in January if you could guide a technical goof like me through getting iPlayer working in Vancouver! That would be an absolute miracle

Got my fingers crossed...:)

Thanks
Adele

Now if that were true it would be surprising (because of the licence fee issue and the Charter) but FANTASTIC nonetheless! We can but hope...:sneaky:

Haven't you noticed that the BBC video news clips that used to say "Sorry not available in your area" now play, but only after a short commercial advertisement? (Ad's on the beeb... who'd of thought!)

This could be the way the Beeb are looking at making the iPlayer available overseas.... We would have to put up with Ad breaks, but i'm sure it would still be less than the tv over here!

I'm not in Canada yet, but it's a valid point you make. Tried to watch a few clips in Norway over the summer (forgot about it not working overseas, doh!), and I got the sorry not available in your area message then.

Here's hoping then that changes are afoot...thanks for the info! ;)

OK, so it worked on another machine, just watched Never Mind the Buzzcocks

Just have to write it up. Will probably not post it on a public forum but of course there's always the PM system ;)
