PMSL - Ilove Family guy - as do my kids (=hmm is 10 too young - nope says my young boy who goes "la la la" during the viewer discretion advised bit - bad mummy! but then he likes Black Books & Spaced)

Hi, I am a radiographer and I may be able to answer your question. Sometimes in the X-ray they see some round shadows and buy putting the ring on they want to make sure that the shadow is your nipples and not any other shadowing on your lungs. the rings defines the area and they can check if the that area is the same area as the can see the shadows. There isn't anything to worry about. This is a very normal procedure and being done for people whose nipples are more denser than others. Hope this helps.
