I remember something on the CBC a year or so ago looking at population movements within Canada. Essentially the message was that the west was receiving people with better economic prospects, but as prices have risen people with poorer economic prospects in the west have found it more difficult to afford to live in the west and have looked to live in the east (Quebec and maritimes).

Maybe Moncton is receiving people but it doesn't necessarily follow that they will have the money or economic prospects to drive up house prices.

oooh snap!

I don't know the man or his family, I wish him well really (not that he needs it, I'll sure he's doing ok anyway). I didn't realise it was over three years ago I posted this thread:- http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=504922

I hope someone has made good use of the place since!

Because it started from a very low (cheap) base to begin with. It was dirt cheap compared to other places. Prices could double and they would still look cheap in comparison.

The opposite being equally possible.

The reality being that housing is more expensive. The reality is that more house building has been happening. The reality is that businesses are expanding within and into the area.

But maybe these businesses are just being charitable rather than looking to increase profits.:)

Let's do a deal. I could put you on ignore but then I wouldn't benefit from your wisdom in other matters that I'm not involved in. So why don't you just ignore me instead. I'm clearly not up to your lofty standards.

There is no vendetta on my part, maybe some mild frustration because it appears to me that you think what's good for you is good everyone. I apologize if you feel got at.

And I don't put people on ignore... that's just not the way I roll.

I'm at a loss as to how you could think that. I've accepted many a time that I'm an exception. I don't expect anyone to think what's good enough for me is good enough for them; I just don't think the other end of the scale is the only alternative. There are masses of options in between.

What I find so irritating is the constant denial and/or disbelief that something can be done when I'm damn well doing it. And others are too. Less so, of course, but they still exist.

Unless they've since died of starvation.

Do you remember a couple of weeks ago in one of many of the income threads most people were talking about whatever income level was necessary? A high figure was agreed on by most venturing an opinion.

Our resident tax expert came along and said he did very few returns for people with that sort of income.

So these high incomes may be representative of Brit Expats but they don't appear to be representative of most people in Canada.

You could argue, quite reasonably, that BE posts should reflect that. But there are BE members whose circumstances rather than their financial clout bring them here.

By making the comments that I make about what can be achieved at my end of the scale of wealth I am merely trying to show that there can be something in between.

It seems to me that my experiences are either disbelieved or invalidated.

Your right about that! And it will more than likely go up more. We are paying £1.40 for regular unleaded and £1.45 for regular diesel here in Somerset at the moment. Regular unleaded was at £1.33 the day after the budget

Seeing a number of people are taking the time to look for cheap housing where they live I thought I throw this into the mix.

http://www.calgaryherald.com/busines...750/story.html

Still not cheap here but it is cheaper than it was a year ago or even a few months ago.
