British Columbians have voted to scrap the province’s controversial harmonized sales tax, according to the results of a binding, province-wide referendum.

Federal government is likely to want its 1.6 billion dollars back now.

We get the tax policy we deserve.
Still, it will keep the wolf from my door for a few years.
I am glad Kiwilass enjoyed her trip to TO.

HST may or may nor be good, I'm not bothered. I'm still glad it got voted out simply because I'm going to enjoy the ensuing chaos.

The public sector unions campaigned heavily to scrap the HST. It should be fun to see what the Government say the next time one of them asks for a pay rise.

Well at least the Alberta and Ontario economy will get a boost for all that extra investment that could have come to BC.
Prices are sure to go up as soon as the HST goes!

I think too many people voted with their heart and not their head. "Lets' teach the Libs a lesson".. talk about cut off your nose to spite your face. I think it's a really poor, poor decision and one that we will be paying for for a good while. If folks think prices will now come down, then just dream on.

I wonder how many people were confused by the wording in the end.
I was expecting a much closer result. Probably not the best choice in the long term but I see the special interest groups are making quite a meal of it already. It's going to seem like a long run up to the next provincial election, however soon it happens.

Home goal for B.C.
Global BCTV - online Poll
43.62% say they favour scrapping the HST
56.38 say they think we should have kept it.
Complete flip flop on the vote that counts!

I wonder this too. I met people for both YES and NO who were confused about which way to vote. The NO person thought he was saying no to the HST. The YES person thought she was saying yes to the 10% HST. All very confusing for some!
Does anyone know if Elections BC has released the number of spoiled or rejected ballots yet? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'd really like to know this number!
