Anxiety or Stress

Heaven preserve us from 'experts' especially those who haven't a clue how their subject of expertise actually works.
'Ahhh', I hear you say, 'we're only trying to help and what we offer may help to reduce the symptoms of these illnesses'
Well, that may be so... or it may not. How many times have you heard the 'expert' suggest 'Oh well that pill didn't work? Try this one then.' It happened to my father-in-law as did ECT.
So 'Ask a psychiatrist' by all means but remember, members of the medical profession should, like other 'experts', be regarded as only advisors where your body is concerned and like all experts, they can be wrong so consider their advice carefully. You are responsible for your body, after all you've lived with it all your life.

Hi Zoe and Stinky,
I'm not in the least suggesting that medical advice shouldn't be sought or ignored, what I am suggesting is that where you feel able to, it should be considered carefully. This doesn't mean that it should be rejected. Where mental issues are involved, then you may not be in a position to rationally consider or reject any advice offered.
We all learn from our experiences, even medical professionals, and although they subscribe to scientific techniques in their decision making, these can be accurate, wrong, misleading or the professional may just not know enough, it's up to you whether or not you accept their advice. As I've said before, it's your body so take care with it.
ps. I don't subscribe to quack practitioners, as has been hinted at. When I'm not well I go to the local GP for advice, whether I accept that advice is up to me.

Drugs are not always the answer. They are just cheaper than behavioral therapies.
I am aware meds work great for many and for those folks it's awesome and I would never say not to try medication, but the system relies on medications too heavily while ignoring other treatment options and that results in many never living their full potential.
This is no fault of the doctors or professionals, it's the politicians who set the budgets that are the issue.

One of our friends was diagnosed with exocrine pancreatic cancer, he died 9 days after diagnosis.

Hmm, I've just read up about latest stats on the above. Even neuroendocrine tumours don't do well and metastasise frequently though a bit later. TBH, neither are ones that you would wish on your enemies. His approach was foolhardy to say the least.

I have a idea that acid reflux maybe a part of my issue, maybe a mix of anxiety and reflux, both create the same chest pain symptoms. I found a diet book that may help, thinking if I try this diet for a week or two it could rule out, or confirm the above ?

Magnumpi: Everyone copes with stress in different ways, depends entirely on our personality/character. I have suffered from anxiety since the age of 13 (panic attacks, paltipations, chest pains, shortness of breath, arm pains so on and so forth). Been on various medications including beta-blockers. From my experience (differs person - person) the advice i would give is to assess how you manage stress. Most of the time we dont realise we're stressed and so the body reacts and gives a sign. Simple things like talking about daily activities, concerns, problems, confiding in people, expressing emotions are important. I for one have a very bad habit of bottling everything up. Additionally, moderate exercise, walking, meditation - breath control, help to take the pressure off. Diet changes can help - add in fresh fruits, dried fruits, plenty of water etc.
I'm glad you've at least expressed and sought advice :-)

Loads of people have "anxiety" these days. There's a woman up our street that has it along with all but 3 people on reddit. They way they talk about it, i's almost like people are proud of their mental instability rather than being ashamed. I mean wtf is that about?? If I was crazy I'd keep it to myself.

My issue is that I don't feel stressed or any anxiety ! But my body is saying I am, and telling me by giving me a Freeking shite load of pain where my heart should be when I get into bad situations and exercise and I am like why is this hurting?
I am an out going happy guy, but i do keep stuff bottled up and never forget a grudge lol, if you cross me I will eventually get my revenge !
That's why when after all my heart tests came back negative my doc surprised me by saying I may have anxiety WTF

Revenge is useless as it hurts you more than it does them. Forget about the past and enjoy the present instead of worrying your stomach into an acid bath.

I am thinking maybe best to chill more, stop stressing, maybe go have a pint

There are a few lifestyle changes you can make alongside diet to help reflux..
Do you smoke? Smoking increases the amount of acid you're stomach produces so for many reasons this is one to stop.
Wearing clothes too tight around your middle can increase reflux, as well as the way you perform certain tasks e.g. Bending in the middle to pick things up etc.
Definitely need to be sat upright 4/6 hrs after a big meal so no late night eating.
Try propping your bed up at night, just the effect of gravity can help. Food going in the right direction.
Losing weight, reducing alcohol...
If you're doctor has ruled out heart problems, then really investigation into reflux is the next reasonable step, once protocol followed. Not sure what it is in Canada (maybe SP can advise) ie course of medication, Helicobacter Pylori/breath test done if symptoms haven't settled.
Not dismissing anxiety but neither should reflux be dismissed as just an annoyance. As Zoe mentioned earlier, reflux often mimics heart pain..

@T
Don't smoke hardly drink anything, last drink was 2 weeks ago two bottles of wheat beer, at a BBQ, I was hurting a little after them and 2 chicken burgers.
I do burp quite a lot when it hurts, usually if I exersice after food. Just eating food does not set it off. Being in a stressful situation sets it off, but a nitro spray soon has it settled. I may need that maybe once or twice a week.
And I don't wear spandex, often
