That's not doubt is it.... That's just the incoherent, paranoid ramblings of some silly 'preper'.

International comparisons are bullshit because the methodology used in collecting the statistics is different, "violent crime" has a very different definition given to it by the Home Office than is used in South Africa for example. Even the Home Office warns against using statistics from periods prior to 2001/02 for comparison because they changed their methodology that year.

You can prove anything with a sample size of two, which is where Piers Morgan is wrong.

The thing is that Britain used to have an Empire and as a result many Commonwealth countries and territories have very similar gun laws to GB but yet their gun crime rates vary from virtually non-existent (Falkland Islands) to off the charts (Trinidad & Tobago).

Like I said there are other differences you can look to such as the gap between rich and poor, the drug trade, etc. but personally I think using drugs is something cultural anyway.

Look at suicide, Japan has a huge suicide rate, but people rarely shoot themselves. Firearm-related suicide is common in the US. In the Czech Republic people jump from great heights (hence the word "defenestration").

Gun laws don't explain the differences from country to country, only culture does.

Defenestration doesn't have anything to do with heights. One can defenestrate on the ground floor or from a suitably equipped basement. In California I defenstrated a laptop from the first floor (English, second floor American).

Yes but the point I was making is that the origin is Czech, and it is part of their culture to throw things out of the window in protest etc. so they seem to prefer doing that when they commit suicide also. Or jumping from a bridge.

Brando got an oscar for throwing a radio out the window in Streetcar Named Desire, (Blaaanche!!!). I thought it meant dis-embowelment and looked it up, thank you.

They conveniently moved the goalposts there, away from gun homocide and onto violent crime. No breaking down what the violent crime is, the vast majority I would hazard to guess being the chav effect, which we all here know about as this is one of the reasons that drive people like us to look elsewhere to live.

Hmmm... Fox News. That well known source of completely not Republican biased reporting... It's a bit like The Daily Fail in the reliability stakes, only shinier.

Also, I agree about the international criteria. After all, in the UK, I think beating children with a stick to train them to stay on a blanket is illegal, whereas in the US it's seen by some as a moral religious upbringing. There are even books for sale on how to do it properly.

Another thought I had was to wonder if it counts as a violent crime if the gun is never shot, just threatened? That would make a huge difference too, I would think that a lot of people roll over to avoid a bullet, therefore they're not shot and it's not violent.

One of the positives to come out of such a tragedy is that Piers Morgan is in the US pissing Americans right off. I say its a win win situation. They had Jeremy Kyle and now they've got Trisha as well. Can we send them Jimmy Carr and Jonathan Ross while we're at it?
