Children died - Yes this makes me a little sad, but thankful it is extremely unlikely to happen here compared to the US!

They were killed by yet another idiot with easy access to firearms - Deja f'ing vu! See you again next month then (or next week possibly)!

Killing thousands of people in another country because you don't agree with their politics/they have a resource you want (delete as applicable) - Who cares until a soldier dies?

Ignoring the plight of thousands getting killed because they oppose a regime that doesn't have a resource you want - Priceless.

For everything else, those are the times when the US actually wants anything to do with the UN.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and I agree with AC and Alan. I also don't understand the need for people to make Facebook tribute pages for people they don't know though one may argue a case for celebrity pages.

Apparently, a song called Die Young by an artist named Ke$ha, has been pulled from the playlists of many radio station as they deem it 'inappropriate' after the school shootings last week.

Ke$ha addresses ‘Die Young’ radio removal after school shootings

Lyrics and Video

Is this a reasonable decision, or is this a case of being overly sensitive? I suggest the latter.

The lyrics reference someone who wants to party like there's no tomorrow, and the video doesn't glorify guns, nor does anyone appear to die or be injured in it. It's a video about having fun, or is that not allowed after a tragedy like the shooting.

Grow up America! You live by the gun, and yet you suddenly find morals when you die by the gun. It's spelt H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y

But its interesting what you say about gun control in the wake of Port Arthur, didnt know about that.
I said it was banning handguns but from reading I actually think it was banning semi-automatic weapons.

Anyway, here's a short BBC story on it you might find interesting:

I think that the standard US nutbar hit a new low killing children of this age. I don't expect you or AC to go into mourning for complete strangers, but I find it difficult to comprehend that you guys don't care about or even have a minimal emotional thought on the matter.? Or probably any matter that does not effect your side of the street.

But that is your opinion that you are entitled to it.

Unfortunately I have seen the aftermath of ethnic cleansing on a scale that puts what happened in the US into proportion such I that will not lose any sleep over the recent events in the US.

That is not to say that any such deaths are not tragic but, in light of what else is going on in the world, my attention is not focused upon the US.

A few Americans die and the world acts as if the world is coming to an end. It's their crazy beliefs and their crazy laws that enable such atrocities to happen. They then expect the rest of the world to actually give a shit, when they treat the rest of the world like shit the rest of the time.

I appreciate the children were innocent, I am not a heartless pig, but if I wish to get upset about how terrible life is, I wouldn't think about Americans shooting one another.
Well put. I did feel shocked and emotional when I heard about the shooting - which surprised me as I'm not a sentimental person usually. However I certainly can't maintain that level of upset. I'm now getting irritated by Facebook postings about angels and innocence.

I don't know what 'emotional thought' means

Do I think this is sad? Of course.
Am I sad because of it? No.

It will make them feel better? Bring them together as a group.

I agree there are worse, more systematic evils going on in the world, but its hard not the be moved by this event, and if some sort of action on gun control or mental health support occurs in the US as a result of it, then some good will have come of it I hope.

I just cant imagine being in the situation of those poor folks. If people want to express sympathy or support or solidarity with them then wheres the harm.

Do you think there would have been such an emotional response if the shooting had been in a inner-city Detroit school rather than a semi-rual southern Connecticut one?

The "Maddie McCann" effect...? Pretty, photogenic, middle-class... this kind of thing shouldn't happen to 'our sort'...?

Actually I do. Kids is kids. I think timing is as much to do with it as anything, two massacres with similar weapons within 6 months.

After all, this isnt the first "white rural school" massacre, wasnt there that Amish one a few years back?

Different administration of course... The Bush administration held a conference to discuss the issue of school violence.

You make some good points there but I have doubts about their motives. Like many good deeds this will make the participants feel good, reinforce their white small town values. I don't see any support for Attawapiskat for example.
