Do Mods have to adhere to site rule No14 below?

14. Discussions about moderator or administrator actions are welcome in email or local private messages, but should not be discussed in public forums. This is out of respect for the members, moderators and policy involved.

Oh grow up, do. This is a moderated forum with a very clear set of rules, published and easily available to all posters. The point of a moderator is to ensure moderation. If you want a free-for-all go and start one of your own somewhere else.

There are places on here that are less heavily moderated, because by their nature the debate is expected to be a bit livelier - TIO, for example. There are occasionally some good debates in there, but too often it descends into name-calling and insults when people don't have anything better to say, and that detracts from the forum for the rest of us.

As many others have said on here (and none better than MMC) Butch seems to be hell-bent lately on getting himself a ban, the pixel equivalent of suicide-by-cop. Formerly, many of his comments and quips were witty and apt, but recently they're either completely inane or deliberately barbed to the point of offensiveness. I don't know Butch outside cyberspace, so I can't comment on how out-of-character this is. Neither have I complained, because none have been directed at me and, frankly, my skin's thicker than that, but I can see why there have been complaints about his behaviour. We gather (sailing close the the wind of Rule 14, 'tis true) that he has been warned repeatedly. If he can't moderate his own behaviour, it needs to be moderated for him, to the point of an enforced absence if that's what it takes.

Feel free to report posts where we share information regarding moderator activites and guidelines.

Or to repharase that, hands up if you would just prefer us to ACT in the background without bothering to explain, in general terms, where we are coming from in the forum so everyone knows what to expect first.

Getting seriously fed up with this now. And some people wonder why biiiink decided to leave?

I'm not interested in reporting posts in this thread.

Surely by explaining, in general terms, in the public forum you're going against Rule 14?

No offence meant. It was mere curiosity from my side. A serious question in fact. I don't mind either way if things are discussed publicly via moderators and normal members.

I'm also suprised that this thread hasn't been closed yet as it seems to have brought out the antagonistic side of people.

FYI.

according to my quick scan of the thread
27 people have posted
17 appear 'Pro Butch\Anti current style of Moderation' (including one who recently complained about a thread that they felt was directed at them)
10 appear 'Anti Butch\Pro current style of Moderation'

The above appears to contradict COs assertion that the majority are not behind me.

I am also a little surprised it survived the night to be honest, I feared for it when I left yesterday, but I haven't seen anything offensive or out of hand.

There have been some very good and honest posts I think, posted in a mostly thoughtful and mature manner.

Most of the antagonism seems directed at the mods, but its water off a ducks back at this point. When the line is crossed, action will be taken, I hope that that much has been made clear. Liverman at least seemed to indicate it was clear anyway.

I cant believe either of us wasted the time to do that, but I get

28 posters (maybe you were not counting yourself right?)

I make it 7 "For" (counting you)
10 "Against"
11 non committed either way...

Not that it matters one iota, all that matters is how you decide to act, and thats entirely in your court, not the court of public opinion. The rules of the forum wont change.

Re: Advice please

My 10 cents worth.

christmasoompa and Iaink are far more easy going than I am. I would have already deleted this thread.

They both do a stellar job of moderating this forum and what many people seem to overlook is that if we didn't have mods the forums would be a shambles and would be of no use to anybody.

Moderators are volunteers and they do an excellent job for no money, no thanks and lots of moaning ... people should give them a break.

I am not going to rehash it, and this all I am going to say in this thread, I just wanted to express my feelings on the matter.

Based on your extensive experience of this forum you think that EVERY SINGLE POST IN A MAPLE LEAF THREAD WAS ON TOPIC!

You must know better than that surely? Now I'm convinced you are having a laugh at our expense!

which of course is the ENTIRE and ONLY problem with pixelated words on a screen. Which is (as at least two posters have said) all this forum is anyway.
