There are Christmas lights up and working in Port Alberni, BC now!

(Sod Christmas, we're going camping now!)...

There are fall planting bulbs and spring planting bulbs, but you may have left it a little late for the fall ones as they need to get their roots down before the ground becomes frozen - for your area, it would be best to plant them by October. The milder your climate, the later you can plant into the fall.

I should have winterised but didn't.

Frozen hoses buried under 2ft of drifted snow - a knackered floating water heater and subsequent frozen solid 50 gallon stock waterer makes you adamant that next year - you'll get ready earlier.

Hubby winterised the trailer though (blowing out the lines and putting antifreeze in)

I did put some washer fluid in the vehicles if that helps?

Sorry Jings no Xmas trees yet btw (just to keep on topic)

Ah! Life in rural Alberda.

It makes me weep with the sheer romanticism of it all.

Oh, yes.

Or you work in a different Calgary I live in! It first snowed on the 26th October, and hasn't completely melted since. We had a prolonged snowfall on the 3/4th Nov, and on Fri 8th at lunch time, and again on Sat/ Sunday evening.

The first 2 pics were taken on the 3rd Nov and the last one this morning.
This is in NW Calgary, but I work all over the city and haven't seen a single area that doesn't have at least a covering on the grass.

So what part of Calgary do you go to? The highest temperature we had last week was +2! It is now 8:25am and my iphone has the temp as -14.

So, as I said in my original post, we have had snow on the ground, for (over) 10 days. In fact, it is now the 17th day of snow on the ground.

We finished our winterising on Saturday and just in time. It was snowing as we packed the last few things away. My missus was wondering whether to plant the crocus bulbs or not. I had to point out to her that she had nothing to lose. They will either come up or they won't. They sure as hell won't if they sit in a bag in the garage.

We were unable to plant on Sunday due to inclement weather; snow pellets whipped along horizontally. I suppose it's time to see about setting up a snow fence.

It's looking much better later this week. That is a good thing. The rather large pear tree in my back yard has finally started to shed. I have to get those leaves cleared or they will screw up the lawn.

That done, the patio door will be closed until March or April.

My carport is being installed tomorrow, which means that winter can officially start.

Any plans for a conifer forest in your back yard? Some serious overlooking!

We have a christmas tree farm at the end of our road and we went this afternoon to choose our own tree. We put a ribbon on it with our name and address and then they'll cut it for us whenever we're ready in December. I snapped a pic of the one we chose. It's become a bit of a tradition to tramp around looking for the one that's "just right". It's a far cry from picking up a pre-cut tree in a bag from Homebase.

Nice idea!

I have 5 like that in my front garden - it's a shame you don't live closer, you could have taken one for free, lol.
