Amazing? I don't think so, but I was very happy to see them win (despite my usual contempt for the USA). This is because I believe that the US has the potential to become a powerful footballing country, and if it ever did it succeed in that might very well put a major dent the crazy idea that baseball, the NFL and, excuse the swearword, the NHL are "popular".

If and when the USA become really competitive in the World Cup, I think that could trigger a big dent in American Exceptionalism and lead them to gradually realize that the rest of the world does matter a tiny bit and that they are part of it.

Thats funny coz i also wanted them to win. It will put MLS on the map IMO.
