Where home is

Hi Claudia 1,
Off subject, but very interesting question. Our KL place is very small and a bit of a dump, but we have everything within walking distance, great and cheap food, cold beer, huge park with 4km walking track, supermarket etc.
Marina Island has by far the best shopping with Billion, Econsave, Tesco, Giant and The Store all easy to get to, also we keep our boat in this region and again good food.
Penang is a modest unit but fabulous ocean views, lousy shopping close by, but again good food and the vibrance which is Penang.
Answer...I don't know

You appear to be a very organised/clever person.
Marina Island certainly sounds more pleasant than Penang. Do you mind sharing (in general terms) what part of Penang your property is ?

That sounds like Gurney Drive you're referring to, Claudia. Yes it's a busy road especially in the evenings. It's horses for courses though. A couple of our friends live along Gurney and they just love it.
I think the road from Tg Tokong via Tg Bungah through to Bt Ferringhi also quite busy, but depends if it bothers you. What do you think Strider? Busy road at Miami Bay?
There's lots of quieter places on the island if you go looking. Oops off topic again but t'ak apa.
Forgot to mention Strider, Tesco opening next Monday

I was referring to busy road running through Tg Tokong. We just found the whole environment there so unpleasant. Unfortunately, our friends now regret buying in that location & are uncertain if they can recover capital.
If we were forced to live in Penang it would have to be on top of Penang Hill (which I know may not be feasible).

Yeah bakedbean, motorbike goons on a Saturday night are annoying, but the view is special, the beach so close and not far from my favourite market at Tg Bungah and great food is worth it.
Mind Marina Island is way quieter, not so frantic (even though it has a huge amount of engineering works close by), great food, old fashion courtesy and excellent shopping. Having places in our favourite areas give choices depending on how we feel.

Just wondering if we should split off the last 10 postings to a new subject. Claudia and Strider: your thoughts please and an appropriate subject title if you agree with me. Just makes it easier for others to search for what they're looking for.

Strider, it is done. Managed to do it without cocking up this time
It's an interesting thread I think. Well done Claudia.
I'd be interested to know (if Claudia wishes to tell us) which parts of Penang she liked and disliked and why. Noted re Tanjung Tokong. Did you like Straits Quay? Did you see any of the quieter spots like Teluk Bahang and down the west side of the island?
One of the things I like about Penang is that it seems to have such a mixture of places. If you want some peace and quiet, you've got the west side which is so much different.
On a personal level (and we are all different) I like the hustle and bustle of Tanjung Tokong... and Gurney Drive. Noted re the pollution issues of busy road but, well, I wouldn't be standing about in the street all day. I also like Tanjung Bungah (currently living there).
Miami Bay is nice especially if you want the ocean view. Nicely situated between Bt Ferringhi and Tg Bungah, and more laid back than Tg Tokong. I can understand why so many folks like that area, but for me personally, I like to be able to walk out (not have to take the car). Personal choice.

Claudia1 I passed through Sydney a few weeks ago. Long enough to get on a mates yacht and have lunch at the fish market with a couple of bottles of plonk. Puts a nice face on the place I must say.

We went to that eatery with a couple of friends about a month ago I think. It was open at 7pm, had an interesting waiter(err waitress) - used to see him/her at another establishment a while back, and beer served in cocoa mugs
You better try it out. I mentioned it in another thread called something like Has Prohibition started. I think it's called Copacabana? or something like that.
