Penang regular meetups for mm2hers and newbies

Or how about a communal game of pool at the Rasa Sayang Hotel in Batu Ferringhi. The lounge has loads of sofas and might help to get everyone mixing a bit better.
Another place could be Ingoff's German restaurant in Tanjung Bungah. There is a big table there and good choice of beers/wines, coffees and teas.
To be honest I feel quite daunted of the thought of having a meal with people I don't know. If its a bar, then at least you have the choice of having a meal if you fancy it or if not just having a beer, coffee or whatever. You can get out faster if you think many are not your type too, ha ha.

BTW have they put any tips on the cues at RSH?

Let's move the location to Lunarich Italian restaurant at Gurney Paragon Mall. It's above FGI Fridays. You can order a drink without having food. We will use lucky draw system. When people arrive, he/she will pick a number, and sit accordingly. I don't expect a large turn out for the first time, but if there is a large turn group, Lunarich has both indoor and outdoor space to accommodate big or small groups. The only thing is you can't bring your own wine. There is a corkage fee... I will need to check on that...

How would you like us to dress and what types of conversation would you like us to participate in.
Think I might be busy on the days you want to do this.

I think it's great that Smilecanuke is making an effort to coordinate this. Well done.
It's a job. I know it's a job as I was coordinating the Penang Support Group for some time, with the Makans and the Coffee Meetups, and there's emails and phonecalls blah blah blah. It can be a thankless task. There were one or two others who took over the coordination after I dropped out, and they did great also. (They know who they are.)
But, sadly, there are always plenty of moaners and whingers who have loads of time to whinge but no time to actually set something up it seems
Funny that.

Nought like calling a spade a spade eh?! No offence intended I’m sure.
I agree though, and suggest you quietly drop the lucky number idea SmileCanuke. Sounds too much like a swingers key bowl party!
Lighten up everyone. No harm done.

God, what a thankless task trying to organise a meet up. How about a piss-up in a brewery, can't go too wrong there? (On second thoughts, that might prove difficult in Malaysia.)

Don't give up Smilecanuke. It is a pretty thankless task organising anything like this. I am just thankful you took up the challenge.

The great thing with pubs is that you can just turn up, move around (if you get someone boring next to you

So, dunno, just an idea. I'm a bit tied up over the next month or so. Maybe a New Year initiative, as well as Smilecanuke's idea ?
I think that SteveMY (who was coordinating coffee meetups and makans earlier this year) is back in the land of the living soon, so maybe he'll kickstart something

You jest but, actually, that's not a bad idea....at least A Pub. So many folks seem to turn up at Healy Macs on certain nights I hear. So maybe *someone* might like to organize an easy Pub Meetup.

), up and leave when you like. No need to reserve tables etc.

Just to say that I am still looking at Healy Mac's for a regular meet up but would like to canvass some opinions.
Firstly, if this were to be a regular meet up which was, for example at 5pm on the last Wednesday of the month (and this is only an example as I've yet find out what would the best day of the week for them) how many people would be interested in going?
Is once a month the right frequency or should it be more often?
What is the best time to start (bearing in mind it starts to get a bit busier after 7pm)?
I think they will give us a discount on drinks and might do so on food if enough people are interested, is eating here of interest to anyone?
My suggestion would be for an area indoors with both standing up and some sitting down possibilities - any views on this?
Finally, I think this needs to be something which can happen without any organisation which is why I'm looking at something easy to remember and simple to do - is everyone happy with that approach?
Cheers and beers, IVV

I would support IVV's idea trying to start at Healy Macs. When you come through the main entrance there is a nice section on the left before going to the terrasse with a bar for those who want to move around and some tables for those who want to eat.
5 pm seems a good time for me so all of the retirees can go for happy hour after a hard days work. We would have enough time to talk till 10 pm when the music kicks in and blows us away.
Once a month frequency should be good as well. If you extend it to 2 to 3 month people will forget it. Also no harm done if only a few show up who enjoy having a cold drink with some company.

I am not familiar with that place. However, I am keeping a close eye on this thread as I would like to participate after having moved to Penang (scheduled to be shortly before Christmas), and having solved the most pressing items after moving house. I assume that participation is not limited to holders of a UK passport only?
