Update on residency application.
I Google translated our BC's (lacking a Hello Kitty stamp so it didn't look official ) & took everything back to Comune again along with print-outs of all the useful information you lovely people directed me towards.
Rejected! The man demands an official stamp.
Rome-no! London-no!
Liverpool-yes!!!!
The honorary consul in Birkenhead provide a translation and Home Office stamp for £160 for both BC's and should take 4 or 5 days.
I am sooooo happy! Especially as we have a 10 day trip to North Wales planned for this March.

You're happy because you're going to Wales? Is that an oxymoron then?

Sorry..just catching up on this one. Amazing how Italian bureacracy still shines through in the face of EU equality etc.

HAdEnough . is this true? They shouldn't really demand Ital citizenship even for a public sector job, as much as they demand you are a man or woman . .I'm presuming you're EU...

So glad that I didn't have to fork out this kind of money - and sorry that you are being made to - but happy that things finally seem to be working out for you.

You're very kind-thank you. The man at the Comune got a bit excited when I showed him the info re self-certification and calling the police! But as we left he had a smile/sneer on his visage!

I bought a new telly a few years ago paying by instalments (F*ndom*stic) and they wanted a copy of my permesso di soggiorno before they could go ahead with the loan ... I protested of course but in the end I had to dig it out.

which reminds me that we bought two new sofas from Divan* & Divani and they offered financing at 0 pct . When I tried to apply they would not accept the that I didn't have an italian ID card . Despite the fact that I could produce all the documents mentioned on the forms ( the ID wasn't ) they refused to finance us. I then paid cash which really freaked the woman in the shop but I said that it was either that or I would cancel the order because I will not use a cheque book .

I had the same problem with gym membership and mobile phone contracts. They accept only IDs and not passports as I presume the ID is used as proof of address as well.
