Yes, the last solution is also the cheapest - got any one? The stalkers in question are in fact from Milan with origins in Sicily. I have been told that their behaviour would never be tolerated in Milan that the air riffle people would have been called in long ago.

Well, at the time I also heard someone else mowing their lawn further down the street, so I am quite sure I was doing nothing wrong. Veneto is the region. I am told it is the most racist in Italy by my Italian friends.

There is a fine line between what is consider agricultural and not. Mowing you lawn it could be argued (by your neighbours, I mean), isn't agricultural. You could have chosen to ignore the vigiles request. For the record, I would have stopped as well.

Our vigile don't come out at night -even if they say they will- we have to call the CC. As for the denuncia or I suspect, querela, you have 3 mnths from the time you become aware of being sued. So if you didn't receive the notice and only found out at the CC station, you had 3mnths from then. €500 IS a lot, but you would have known this if you had consulted a lawyer first. We fell into the same trap and will NEVER face the Italian legal system again without consulting a lawyer. And a fair chunk of that first fee are actually taxes for filing the querela. If I remember rightly, it was €70 a go after, though our's was a totally different problem.

I can only repeat that I am sympathetic to your situation, very, but it happens everywhere as my elderly mum found out when, for among other things, a neighbour called the police because my mum refused to let him put his stuff in my mum's top floor flat loft!!! He argued that the roof was communal. And her first lawyer did an appalling job, charging here €200 for just advice. What region is your house in?

A lawyer in Venice wanted 6,000 euros up front to make a stalking case! And then he wanted a, as he called it "modest", fee of 500 euros just for a meeting to consult about taking legal action. I commiserate with your mother. Lawyers are in my experience usually cheats.

I think Duffer had the answer: rent to Chinese. You can then be sure that Governatore Zaia will look into the case.

No, I had not consulted a lawyer before all this happened so have till now never made a denuncia with a lawyer.
We have though really been had by all the local authorities. We have only ever been called up to the station three months after the fact, they never tell us what it is about and after spending another hour there giving our counter denuncia they have come back into the room after a brief absence, announcing that it is now too late.

Also when I have tried to make denuncias (for example when the stalker waited in the dark for me outside my gate and approached me cursing and threatening followed by anonymous phone calls throughout the night), the carabinari simple pushed me out the door saying they wouldn't accept a denuncia from me. The local police said they couldn't do it either and the local police at yet another town near by also sent us away, or rather back to the carabinari. I ended up going back to the carabinari and insisting they make a denuncia...following which they accused me of lying and became very rude and insulting. At that point I was ready to leave for ever.

It is now clear that all the local authorities have been lying to us and that the stalker neighbours know they are protected which is why their assaults become more and more aggressive. But, thanks to some of your here, I now know what is meant to happen with a denuncia. Even if it is too late. I think it is too late now for me to make a denunica against the carabinari.

Is it this bad in other parts of Veneto? Actually, already in the first three months they harassed me: I was merely going for a walk down a country dirt road in the afternoon in spring, looking at the flowers. Two plain clothed punks pulled up along side me in their smart and wanted to know what I was doing. They looked about 18 years old. They wanted my ID and asked where my "husband" was and several other personal questions. They insisted that they were police, merely flashing a piece of small card not visible from the distance all while sitting inside their smart. Being brand new to the area, I tried to be friendly...however later that night I was afraid that they were 2 punks who were going to break in during the night. Turned out it really was the police.
I hope no one else out there has had this awful kind of experience. I think this area is full of very prejudiced small minded ignorant people. The carabinari cannot even spell - and ask me to spell things for them when I've had to sit there in their lousy station with its catholic cross. Has any one here had success with a local lawyer? I'm not so sure any more how long the arm of corruption extends in this area.

Has everyone filled it in? If you haven't you risk being removed from the 'anagrafe' and this could be a problem if you purchased a home under 'prima casa' in the last couple of years.
