Census 2011

:ohmy:Postman's just been. About only the second time this month. A credit card statement. Shredded and straight in the bin.
2011 CENSUS FORM ! 16 pages of instructions. 32 page questionnaire. I'm going for a lie down, to pluck up the courage to have a look at the online version at
http://censimentopopolazione.istat.it

I got mine yesterday, I wonder if they can fine me if I do not send it?

I asked my American friend if she had received as well and her answer was-"I do not divulge private information to anyone, how do you know it is official and not someone trying to get our details?"
So, can you fill it in online as well o'nonno or is it just instructions how to fill it in?

The 9th of Oct is census day and everyone needs to fill in the form.:) Do they not have them in America? You can do it online.

OK, so i'm presuming everyone should have to do the census?

Well we havent received one. (No big surprise as our postal service is shocking)

Do we go online and download a form or just forget about it unless one turns up?

There is still plenty of time. 9th October is the date.

Looking at the website, they are saying that the forms are being sent out by post between 12th September and 22nd October. I've looked on my form and can't quickly see a date by which it must be compiled and returned, but the help line is open until 29th February 2012, so there's a good chance that's the closing date. In other words, no great hurry!

And, again according to the website and the form, to complete the info online (which should in theory turn out cheaper for them, i.e. less taxes for us (yeah, I know!)) you must have the reference number from your paper form. So, no paper form, no online either.

And finally, again according to the website, the forms are being sent out to families based on the anagrafi at 31/12/2010. It doesn't say what happens if you weren't resident then.

Re: Census 2011

This census seems to differ from the last in that not everyone in larger towns will get the full form. Most will get the mini 35 q's version. Nor will they be going house to house.

We weren't resident last time, but we still filled in a form -or rather, it was filled in for us- , but as Serrano said, that doesn't seem to be the case this time. But until the site is up and running or the mini van comes round in October, we won't know much.

I have visions of people not bothering with this census.

Re: Census 2011

I’ve just received the census. The form itself is 64 pages long and it comes with a 16 page explanation booklet plus another 4 page cover letter i.e. 80+ pages to read. Now I’ve been here quite a while and I work all day, every day, in Italian and I speak, read and write it pretty well but the thought of ploughing through this lot depresses me. On the very first page it says you have to respond by law (and quotes the law).

Re: Census 2011

;)Know how you feel Chris. Checking out my papers I see that we also filled out a form for a census dated 21/10/2001; but we were late and were severely reprimanded by the census takers when they came round and it wasn't ready. I see that we were also 'selected' by ISTAT for a form filling exercise dated 02/07/2007 relating to business and workforce statistics.
Form filling, bureaucracy, bits of paper; the story of my life. This latest little beauty is still on the dining room table, where I put it when first opened!

Does anyone know if this is available in English?
I know that the UK Census 2011 was available in 57 languages!

Mine arrived this week Duffer and there is a leaflet with ith for foreigners in 10
languages. The English bit says this :

copies of the questionnaire(Household form), the guide to filling in the form and the information letter in English can be downloaded from http://censimentopopolazione.istat.it ; otherwise, hard copies are available at Municipal Collection Centres, which also provide assistance with filling in the forms. The phone numbers and addresses of Municipal Collection Centres area available at http://censimentopopolazione.istat.it or by calling the following
toll-free number: 800.069.701. Please note that the translations are merely supplements to filling in the form itself, which should be completed in italian. Furthermore, responses that are not pre-coded (foreign state of
citizenship, for instance) should be written in Italian.

hope that helps :)

Re: Census 2011

Just taken my first look at the website, and I couldn't find any foreign language versions either. Looks to me as though you will have to wait until October, when it becomes possible to fill in the questionnaire online. What I did find was a lot of verbal masturbation about how much money they are going to waste; with 100 Census points in major cities, and hostesses in uniforn, and logos, and 21 minibuses tearing around the country. Wot financial crisis??

Is it a valid excuse not to do it if there isn't an English version available (or at least the instructions in English)? What's the worse that can happen? Would they send Equitalia round?

If, like us, you only have to fill in the short version, it shouldn't be too much of a problem filling it in in Italian. It's only name, adress, school etc no wading through q's like, how many rooms, bathrooms, toilet brushes etc. :D Though they do want to know where your parents where born.

The fine for not complying is €2,000. Please do not even mention E.

Re: Census 2011

I am next going out to my place in Lazio at the beginning of November. Presumably I will find a form waiting for me. Does it ask similar questions to the UK one, ie names of everyone staying in the property on the night of (whenever?) If that is the case, would I just ignore the form (not being there on the relevant date in October) or should I fill out the form in November with zero occupancy on the census day?
Bit of luck joining this forum today, as I was unaware of any census!
Thanks for your help, and hello

37100 Sep 30th 2011 2:18 am

Re: Census 2011

From what I can see Fergiinitaly, you still fill in the form if you get one. If you aren't registered at the comune, reading the instructions, you probaly will not get one. There is a part that you fill in stating if you and your family were home/another house in your comune/anothercomune/abroad on the 9th Oct and there is also a part for your visitors. It is a very basic census form. Only a few will receive the full version.

And welcome to BE.:D

Re: Census 2011

OK, mine turned up this morning.

Fortunately, our local commune office asked if we needed any help with we can go their and she'l help us.

Likewise, i also looked on the website and cant find any English versions. What about forming our own forum census help group - where the more knowledgeable, Italian speaking members cam explain the questions? ie...

1.1 Type of house, etc - and then maybe explain the question a bit.

Actually, on second thoughts - probably too much work.

Re: Census 2011

:lol:Oh Jeez! The mention of 'E' has spoilt what was going to be a perfect day.
As for the suggestion that a 'help' section be set up, that is a good idea; but who will actually help? Personally, I haven't got round to even looking at the thing again yet. They did say on the website a week or so ago that by October it would be possible to do eveything online. I may pluck up the courage to go online after I've had a lie down later today.

Re: Census 2011

I got a letter a couple of months ago which informed me that I was among a (lucky) group of 6000 inhabitants who were to be interviewed face-to-face in addition to filling-out the form. Surnames beginning with "H" stand out, I suppose. I am waiting for "them" to phone to make an appointment.
In the meantime, the form is not without its curiousity value. Passing over the question (Persona 02/4.5) "If you are more than one years old, where did you live 12 months ago?"( which is clearly a trick question - surely you would address a child of that age with "tu"?), Q 6.10 reads like the basis of a TV quiz show: "What do a taxi driver and an olive presser have in common?"
"Ditto, athlete, ragioniere and air traffic controller?", "Ditto, policeman, babysitter and shop assistant?".

I completely ignored it till I've come across this topic..and I've remembered it's done every 10 years...I haven't received it yet anyway....

Re: Census 2011

:lol:I can just picture the one year old answering that question - and putting them to rights about the grammar.
Still haven't plucked up the courage to open the envelope again; or go on line.
Decided that besides the lie down, I also need a very stiff drink as soon as I wake up before tackling the job. Am a firm believer in never do today what you can put off until tomorrow. Especially where bureaucrats are involved.
Have a happy census.

My God.

This is the only thing I have been able to find on the census that mentions other languages.

but of course, predictably - I cannot find a single thing in any language except Italian on the official website mentioned in the article.

Margaret - have you had the courage to open yours yet and did you find "a written message in 10 languages informing you that the census must be filled out in Italian and a translation of the material in the envelope can be downloaded from ,,,,, blah blah website or can be collected from one of the Centri di raccolta" ??

That's from the 2001 census though. Some of the questions are probably the same but that's not the link for this year's one.

Interesting! 64 pages, 31 pages. Mine is 40. Plus 8 page instructions, plus 2 telling you that you must fill in the form. All in Italian. And 2 pages in ten languages telling you where to get the form in English etc, but to fill it in in Italian. An lastly, the return envelope.

Re: Census 2011

Just been to get the little one from school and there sticking out of the post box was the big, fat white envelope.

64 pages - although the last 3 or 4 are blank.

I did get the note in 10 langauges.

It's all addressed to OH but I know he'll want to do this even less than I do and I'll end up doing it.
