yippeee!! CSL is gone too. here is the link to the announcement and it looks really like something huge went down
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener.../whats-new.htm

To prevent mass hysteria, the first document in the link says that existing applications are unaffected.

Not quite yet! ... "The Critical Skills List (CSL) will be revoked when the new
Skilled Occupation List (SOL) comes into place in mid-
2010."

Hi,
MODL will be removed :(
CSL dont revoked at the moment. The major change is we cant get MODL points from 8 FEB onwards..

The applicants who applied before 8 FEB is now in safe side but we dont :(

GSM visa changes effective 8 Feb 2010

Hi,
The GSM visa application changes took place..
All MODL occupations are now removed :( So the applicants apply after 8 FEB 2010 will not entitled to get MODL Points(15 points).

The CSL will be revoked too in the mid of year 2010 till then it is valid. Also the priority processing is there.

The major change I would say is removing of MODL points which will gonna effect for many applicants even me too. Because I do have 115 points left excluding MODL points :(

Strange...

Re: GSM visa changes effective 8 Feb 2010

Oh no, we were going to lodge our app later this year.......we only had a 120 points with the modl points;((( I am actually speechless right now....So sad:unsure:,
Have to look into other options, if any....:(

umair Feb 7th 2010 1:48 pm

Re: GSM visa changes effective 8 Feb 2010

There are two options I am seeing now for those who have atleast 110 points excluding MODL.

a: Retake IELTS with 7 bands in each (worth 10 points)
b: get NAATI accreditation in any of australian community language (worth 5 points)

Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010

Hi all,

Finaly they announced it
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...hats-new.htm#a

Its a long list of docs, read all but not sure about mine case.

I am on CSL/MODL, have send my paperbased 175 application on 22nd Jan'10, but so far not got any acknowledgment, as per the new policy, current applicants are not affected by the changes.

Confused can I count myself in process applicant category or not as I haven't recieved any Ack.

Thx! :)

believer Feb 7th 2010 2:42 pm

now they said it!

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...processing.pdf

"The new ministerial direction on priority processing
applies to all GSM applications including those in the
final stages of processing. Case officers must adhere to
this direction.
The Australian Government appreciates that migration
is a major life decision and can be emotionally and
financially stressful
for applicants. Applicants are
advised when they apply for a visa that there is no
guarantee of a visa being granted. For this reason,
the department consistently provides information
to applicants recommending they do not make any
irreversible arrangements before being advised formally
that their visa applications have been approved. This
includes selling property, resigning from employment or
purchasing travel tickets, particularly in circumstances
where it is a visa requirement that the applicant be
offshore at the time of approval."

Hi jovi,
You are in safe side because the changes apply to those who will lodge the application on or after 8 FEB 2010.

Hi Umair,

So u mean to say that even if DIAC has recieved the 175 application but not yet started to process it (as i haven't got ack.) i am in process applicants.

This sounds really great, I been bit reluctant to send the application.

Still not sure of the future of IT applicants.

All the best!

Hi Jovi,
I have read out the following from IMMI site

Removal of the MODL
On 8 February 2010, the Minister for Immigration
and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, announced the
outcomes of a review of the Migration Occupations in
Demand List (MODL).
The review found that the existing MODL needed to
be revoked and replaced by a more targeted skilled
occupations list to better meet the demands of
Australia’s labour market.

The revocation of the current MODL will not affect those
who at the date of announcement:

• hold a Skilled—Graduate (subclass 485) visa, or have
a pending subclass 485 visa application and are
yet to apply for a permanent or provisional General
Skilled Migration (GSM) visa, or

• have a pending GSM visa application.

Based on that I think you are in safe side , meaning you will award 15 points for MODL.

I am seeing two choices now

a: Get State Sponsorship (already applied for VIC SS since 20 days but no result yet)
b: Retake IELTS and get 7 bands in each (Already tried two times but got 6 in reading :()

Any advices?

PLASTERERFROMWALES Feb 7th 2010 3:22 pm

state migration plan

Recent changes to priority processing mention the state migration plan, could someone explain who are they for and is it possible to get one?

Q 9 What is a state migration plan?
State migration plans are developed by state/territory
governments and include occupations that are in
demand in each individual state and territory. Each
state migration plan is approved by the Minister for
Immigration and Citizenship. As at 8 February 2010, the
minister has not approved any state migration plans.

Thanks

VIC's SS success rate is not that impressive..so my personal suggestion would be to take some thorough IELTS coaching and go for it once again

My name is sooooo long that some documents can not show my full name fully i.e. several inconsistencies in the documents. Since some of these documents were important, I am guessing that DIAC undertook extensive investigation on those documents. Perhaps, I am also from high risk countries. These are just the possibilities I can think on the top of my head.

Do more practice. Since, assuming, that you got 7 in general IELTS listening, writing and speaking - getting a band 7 in reading should not be insurmountable.

Just be patient. Its almost impossible to guess the length of time DIAC requires to do security checks and other administrative procedures. As long as the documents are all in order, you will get that prized grant letter.:D

Hello Umair,

I wish u could get success, despite of improving IELTS, also check for other states like NSW & WA, they also have IT in their list, but they charge a little fees, for WA its 220$, I think so, otherwise the last resort would be Regional state route, but try your IELTS first.

I myself have applied to Vic in Dec'09 but since than no reply, it is very hard to get it, plenty of rush.

What center u have chosen, AEO or British Council, if it was BC than they are very strict in marking, try AEO, but with more practice.

Good Luck!
