Hi Guys,
An applicant on CSL applies on 1-March-10. By Jun-2010 the CSL is phased out. Would the applicant still be finalized in 12 months? Regards, |

Hello Umair,
I wish u could get success, despite of improving IELTS, also check for other states like NSW & WA, they also have IT in their list, but they charge a little fees, for WA its 220$, I think so, otherwise the last resort would be Regional state route, but try your IELTS first. I myself have applied to Vic in Dec'09 but since than no reply, it is very hard to get it, plenty of rush. What center u have chosen, AEO or British Council, if it was BC than they are very strict in marking, try AEO, but with more practice. Good Luck! My concern is I have already made 2 attempts on IELTS and got no more band then 6 in reading. :( I have used AEO. Regarding the SS I got the inquiry from VIC State within two days of applying and they were asking for my updated Resume. What is your application status in VIC SS tracking page? |

Hi,
I'm confused as to what these changes mean for myself. I am a joiner/carpenter in Scotland 10+ years experience. I have booked my vetassess practical for June and would like to apply for my permanent visa if I pass this.. Will I still be able to get a visa now with these changes? |

Re: state migration plan
Exactly what I have been wondering
Does this mean that if you are already state sponsered, you are top of the queue....Or does it mean there is going to be another queue to try & join?..... |

Re: Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010
I am on CSL,based on my IT occupation which is in MODL. As now MODL is no longer there, will I be still in MODL? In the site http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-in-demand.htm states that previous applicants will be judged in MODL. So I hope we will be also judged as CSL.

Re: Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010
The way things are changing, it is becoming a nerve wrecking roller coaster ride for everyone who either applied or intends to apply.I can only pray that they can stick to some decision and give us some breathing space. We would really appreciate if the process is not made too confusing. And also, are they giving it a thought that, if they tend to change things like this and this trend gets publicized, skilled people in future will think twice before applying for aussie migration and rather prefer for some other destination as they can never be sure about whats gonna happen after they apply.

I'm not sure about new applicants, though, how are they gonna work around this one. |

Re: Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010
Good Morning everyone,
Nice set of challenges to wake up to. The critical points about the changes to General Skilled Migration are: a) Current applicants who applied on or after 1 September 2007 aren't affected - their points and eligibility are locked in and in most cases their processing priority will remain the same until 30 June 2010 at least. b) People who applied before 1 September 2007 are subject to "cap and kill" legislation, ie the Department is going to process a certain number (not yet announced as far as I know) and then terminate the rest, in which case all application fees paid to the Department of Immigration will be returned to those applicants (directly or through their agents). c) Current onshore students will not be able to claim MODL points however they will benefit from a complex suite of measures designed to protect them (and the international student industry). The Department will announce the new skilled occupation list by 30 April 2010 (taking effect on 30 June 2010) and most graduates who have not yet applied for a general skilled migration visa will need to wait until then to determine which pathway they should pursue. The Department does not need to announce transitional measures for students whose visas are expiring on 15 March 2010 since those students are able to lodge a subclass 485 (temporary graduate) visa and then change their nominated occupation for their permanent visa application. d) People planning to apply for General Skilled Migration as of 8 February should consult a migration agent - those who hold positive skills assessments but have not yet applied for their visas will be able to apply however should their nominated occupation not be on the new Skilled Occupation List then their application will most likely be refused. e) There is still more information needed to clarify many of these points, in particular I would expect inputs from the Minister's speech later today, and also from the Migration Institute of Australia. In the meantime, the major links are all here: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...df/faq-sol.pdf . Cheers, George Lombard |
Re: Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010
I have to say that the most unfair, disgraceful, and disgusting thing is CAPPING applications!
Do you think it's only about those pre 01/09/2007? Then you're wrong. It's just a first step of this dear minister. Then he will definitelly go ahead with other applicants. I have no words to name this shi..t. |
Re: Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010
I think I am stuffed.
I'm 44 next week and my occupation was on the MODL which meant I achieved 120 points. I now have 105 and am therefore thinking of going no further wth my application as I will simply be wasting money if I understand the situation correctly because I have not submitted my application. If my occupation is on the new SOL announced in April will points be awarded for that or do we just not know what curve balls the Australian Government will throw next? |

In fact, I think there is no need for states to copy CSL as it gives enough priority for applicants (CSL + SS = 3 cat.) Instead, states will make their own lists that are different from CSL to sponsor other workers, not included in CSL. The problem is who will they include in it and how soon we'll know it. |

But the question is when will it be released. As i understand minister hasn`t approved any, so it maybe already done by states and now it is in magic hands of minister :sneaky: ...who knows... |

Until then, really everything is speculation. But it does appear that the focus of the new system is not to give visas to everyone but for Australia to really address its specific migration needs, especially on a individual state level. Which, in theory doesn't sound like a bad idea. |

Re: Minister's announcement on GSM visas – 8 February 2010
Guys, a lot of people are asking George for very specific help in their individual cases. Please bear in mind if you are doing this that he does have a business to run and a living to earn, and it wouldn't take a genius to work out that he is going to have a lot of paying clients looking for answers too.
If you want a reply to a very specific situation, please be patient, and don't address the question specifically to George or any other agent - other posters may be able to answer you, including other agents. And remember that it may well be in your own best interests right now to consult a registered migration agent yourselves, rather than relying on the free - and of necessity fairly general - information on here. Thanks |

A quick question for you Pollyana. It has just been announced that teachers will go on the new priority list. My brother in law is a fully qaulified primary school teacher and is on a family sponsored visa as he is 43 years old. His application has been in 12 months now and they where thinking it would be another 12 months at least before hearing anything. Now that teachers will go on a priority list will this mean his application will automatically go to the top of the list?
I would be grateful for any info you could finf out for me Regards Raven ps it was on the 9 news this morning There will be some new lists released in the coming months, but as far as I can tell, nothing announced today would effect a primary school teacher who has already lodged their application. Why are you addressing your question to one person on the forum btw? |
