The client DIAC Charters says 12 months - that's the official line, everything else is really a guess - most are done earlier than that, but that's is the official timeline for an offshore PR visa.
the actual time it takes to be assigned a case officer will vary depending on how many applications are queued ahead of you. after that, the time to finalize your visa will vary according to how complex your application is (marriages, dependents, health, criminal record, etc. . .), whether you frontloaded all the required documents, how many other applications the case officer is handling simultaneously (which I would guess is the same for all CO's), and finally how motived the case officer is to get people through (or how lazy they are). i've applied for a state sponsored 176. appears those are taking 7-9 months as of now. hoping it doesnt take longer. may just take a working holiday to new zealand while i wait. |

The 12 months noted for the processing time of a low risk skilled PR visa is the service standard, not the actual current processing time. If you dig around the Aus immigration website you will discover that the dept sets at its standard (its goal) to process 75% of those visas within 12 months and 50% of them within 9 months.

Read back through this thread you'll see there's no rhyme or reason to processing times. Not sure where you got your lovely sounding information (do you work for DIAC?!!) but it's certainly not that nice and neat in reality! If only it was  I'm a perfect example of this chaotic system: a paperbased 176 granted 5 months after application in March, when there are completely straightforward frontloaded online applications still waiting from 07. That post was simply to try to help people feeling like they were going crazy when they had had their expectations unrealistically set by circulating rumour etc. |

Re: Current processing times
I have chased my agent this week as we applied for a 176 state sponsored visa in February (paperbased) and this is the response I received:-
"In relation to online applications/paper applications – those lodged between August 2007 and March/April 2008 are generally going through the system at around the same timespan. However in order to improve their published processing times, DIAC have started to push through e-lodged cases, lodged from May 2008 – in essence cases e-lodged at this time and after, are effectively jumping the queue thanks to DIAC’s method of processing. It isn’t fair or correct but that is the way they have decided to proceed." I look forward to your comments. Jo xx |
