One of us has a visa

Re: One of us has a visa
Yesterday NZIS used the phrase "issues with Neils health" which is just getting silly now because the consultant said there "weren't any costs or implications".
Ironically, we have our leaving party tonight, but I never felt less like partying

It is kind of silly i am about half a stone over weight (already lost a stone) and my LFT,s are coming down but with the delay they have caused i,m just not gonna make the flight with Jan, Its a delay nothing more but that isn,t the point when we are waiting to start our new life together. We are lucky in some respect,s and apart from some upset we will live with it, but it does seem to be a little pedantic on there part but i suppose rules is rules

So sad to read what you are going through for some small miracle. Seems so silly & very unfair as the "medical" opinion is its of no consequence.
Well done for keeping as positive as you can
Good luck

I can't begin to imagine how frustrating it all must be!
While I understand New Zealand (or any country for that matter), doesn't want to take risks regarding its health care, I read or heard somewhere that obesity is rampant there?
I really hope Neil gets everything sorted very soon
My thoughts are with you guys!

Re: One of us has a visa
well its now 6 days til we fly and Neil still does not have a visa. The emails from our lawyers to NZIS have been rooted in legal process - and very good - but to no avail. We have been strongly advised that Neil should turn up with me and get a normal visitors visa on arrival - making it clear that he is in a process for a visa that has been delayed and that he is coming on holiday instead. My employers are very kindly buying him an open return ticket, which he will be required to show of course.
My employers are very upset this has happened to us and understandably worried that I might not turn up! But we have sold the house and the container is booked, we have no jobs in the Uk and nowhere to live.....
My employer also said he hoped that this had not put us off NZ as he felt embarassed about what had happened to us.
We have also asked the consultant for a further letter stating the exact words from the Operations Manual, rather than just saying "Neil will not cost any money as he is not ill" as he did before, though I fail to see what what was so tricky to understand about the first letter.

hello you two
Your new employer sounds so lovely Jan.
In all this awfulness which will sort itself out... what a great start from an employment aspect....neither you or your employer will have any doubts about committment from either side. Makes for an excellent start and foundation for your new lives.
I wish you both all the very best for the future
(((hugs)))

Yes I must admit my new boss has shown great compassion - mixed with frustration at the process - in all of this. I was already very impressed with the team when I went for the interview but they have surpassed themselves I think.
Ironically, the HR rep in my department recently went on a conference to find out why they were finding it so hard to recruit academics from overseas to come and work in New Zealand. I could tell them..............

Re: One of us has a visa
Excellent, excellent news!!!!!!
You must be so relieved and dying to have that blooming party all over again!?!?
You probably don't remember talking to us, but we'd just been told that our meds were being referred because of Stewart's liver function test results
- well, just had our repeat bloods back and he's down from 70 to 40 in maybe 6 weeks
- and we've been thinking maybe it was down to him being on a low-carb almost Atkins-style diet leading up to the initial tests to try and get his BMI down
- so was just wondering whether maybe Neil had also been on that style diet and that it may have caused his liver to 'react'...
Anyway, it doesn't matter now as you're in and you're off!!!!!!!
Huge congratulations!!!!!!!!
All the best
