Hi all. I am very possibly heading out to Vancouver from England in September to
study. I have my student authorization from the Canadian High Commission and am just
about ready to go. I was wondering if anyone has any advice about setting up my
finances in Canada.

Am I able to open a bank account there? I won't be able to work but I will need a
local account to which I can funnel funds from my UK accounts.

If anyone has experience with this kind of query please let me know.

Cheers, Mike

Mike, you can certainly open an account. Make sure you take your passport with you. I
would recommend you open your account with a credit union. Look in the Yellow Pages.

Do also apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) at the nearest Human Resources and
Development Canada office in case you get a job on campus. Remember that you cannot
get paid without a SIN.
