Re: Skilled Worker Class Timeline from UK
First is to decide which route to do!
Getting a job offer would be quickest route - but that's not easy.
If you have a trade that is in desperate short supply in on of the provinces, you should apply for a PNP (Provincial Nominee Program).
Failing that, there is the Federal Skilled Worker program - this is the most common route but also the slowest.
If you've a job o go to you can get temporary work visa in matter of weeks then apply for permanent residency while out there. I don't know any more about this route - search for work permits or visas on this site.
The PNP means you're application for permanent residence is fast tracked, I think it's about 6 months but you have to have a qualifying job on offer.
The Federal Skilled Worker is the route I've taken - twice! This time we've got considerably further. We've just taken our medicals, it's over 2 years since we applied. If you go this route now, they are quoting 4 years to get to the point of medicals now. Don't do anything like medicals, selling your house, jacking your job in until you are sure you're going to be accepted.
The process has changed since I applied, you don't have to send in loads of documents now or shed loads of money yet. You basically just send in the simplified application form and sit tight! There may be some fee due now, I'm not sure.
The simplest thing is to go to the CIC site, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp all the details are there.
Hope that gets you started.

I mean, you can´t really apply for a job and then say "Oh,by the way, we may not be getting a visa in the next 3 years or so, can i start as soon as i get it??" See what i mean by confused??
Again thanks, your info shed an enourmous amount of light on things!

If you do get a job offer and providing you are healthy and the rest of it, you can get over and take the job in a matter of weeks, maybe a couple of months so don't let the delay for permanent residency put you off.
I personally couldn't get a sniff of a job offer in Canada, although I get tons from UK and Europe so I know my Resume is OK! I think you need to go over there and meet some people to get some leads.

That's fine. I did know, I got a Canadian immigration/recruitment specialist to go over it for me.
I posted it on Monster.ca and have heard nothing from Canada, ironically, I'm in Switzerland now because of that though!

ah well, I thought you knew but wanted to make sure. One more question: would you suggest getting a onsultant/lawyer to assist us in the immigration progress BEFORE we even fill in the application? And what´s the contact number for the guy you mentioned earlier as he sounded like the sort of guy you´d want to be on your side!

Re: Skilled Worker Class Timeline from UK
I did most of the application myself but as I think I mentioned in this thread, I'd have either got there sooner or at least saved myself a lot of greif with a consultant. The guy I used is William Stanley, but he's not in the country at the moment and you his number is giving a disconnected tone - this is not a good sign. I'd trawl round a bit further. Andrew Miller who posts on the forums a lot and is based in Canada might be worth checking out. You can book a half hour consultation with him at a reasonable price and I'm sure he'd be happy to talk you through things.
Search for him and you will find a link to his website. He is a member of an association of immigration consultants (CSIC I think?), don't use anyone that isn't on their list - Canadian High Commission (CHC) won't deal with them otherwise.

Re: Skilled Worker Class Timeline from UK
I put a post on this time last Thursday at the end of my tether - don't think I have experienced anything so stressful before in my life and then my mum rang with the news that the envelope had arrived and everything changes. So an hour later I was posting my good news on the forum before I had even contacted my husband. It will come very soon for you all as you all deserve some good news as you've all been waiting such ridiculous timelines - you must post your good news asap BIG LUCK TO YOU ALL
Can you tell me when you first applied

Re: Skilled Worker Class Timeline from UK
Thanks for responding so quickly. It seems we are very slightly ahead of you but we know that doesnt mean anything, looking at the other posts. We first applied November 2004. Had our medicals end of June which were received at CHC July 4th 2007. Not had anything through since then. Do you know if you are requested to have medicals it is a definate yes - or is it still a maybe?. Only stumbled on this website yesterday but wish we had found it much earlier. We are sick and tired of the wait too. Our life has been in limbo for so long. We were hoping to make the move end of August or early September but doesnt look like that is going to happen.

Hi Petemaz,
I may be wrong, but generally I believe if you've been asked for your medicals then you have passed the other checks. Basically, there's no point asking for you to have medicals if they are going to reject you on anything else.
Obviously, they can do what they want and if anything else comes to light they can still reject you.
I had my meds done on 15th June and as I'm waiting in limbo for what seems like an eternity, like you, I start doubting things.
I was really confident when we got the request for meds, now I'm feeling quite down, partly because we are living with my father-in-law (not because of him, it's just not OUR house) and partly because I can't plan anything. We are in the perfect position to move now - not because we planned it for Canada as such but we've held off moving to somewhere more permanent or arranging the kids schooling because we thought we would have a decision before August.
Anyway, chin up I guess. Maybe I'll become religious and start praying - anything that might speed things up

Thanks for replying - We were so confident that we would finally get our visa this summer that we have put our kids names down at a school in Ontario. They are due to start September 4th
Looks like they will be going back to their old schools - none of them want to! All excited about the move.
Its so frustrating we know where we want to live. House is sold and we are in rented accomodation. We are ready to go!
We are coming up to our third year of waiting now which seems ridiculous. But it seems we are in the majority.
Only just joined this forum but its been good to vent our frustrations! - sorry.
Please let me know when you get your PPR through.
