Default lmo

hi people, trying to get info/research on working in Canada.
im a hgv driver, clean license, over 8 years of experience, 33 years old.
ive done a lot of research all ready but still got a few niggling things I need to find out.
regarding the lmo, if I got a lmo can I only work for the company who got me the lmo or can I move companys? im all ready going to pay for Canadian license myself as I don't want to be held by a company if they pay for it. so need to know how exactly the lmo works im sure I will have plenty of other questions I need answering so thank you in advance

Hi and welcome to BE

You can only work for the company specified on the LMO and work permit. If you wanted to change jobs, you would need a new LMO and work permit.

You can read more about this in the wiki here: http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Tempor...Permits-Canada and here: http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Work_P...cations-Canada

Feel free to ask any questions!

We also have a trucking forum that might be useful to you: http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=118

brilliant info thank you, it answered my question to a degree.
if i decided to move company who originally got me a lmo, would i have to get new company to get me a new lmo to work for them?
as it states that normally lmo is specific to that one company and you cant work for anyone else other than that company

You are very welcome!

Yes, you would need the new company to get an LMO for you.

Edited to say, there are several Provinces that have programs for truck drivers to gain PR - normally once you have worked for 6-9 months in Canada. It might be worth your while looking at them.
