That's what I thought. But when I asked the boarder security guy he said we didn't need to go through immigration. Can I not just go to airport and get one?
No unless you are entering Canada.

I have a solution. Well my uncle does. He and his family have PR. He flew back from vacation yesterday and went through immigration for me and asked them what I could do. They told him that I can drive to the American boarder and go into America and turn around and come back through immigration there and get the visitors visa sorted that way. So that's what this weekend is going to involve. We live in okotoks so it's only couple hours away.

Yes, it's called flagpoling - there's a Wiki article about it and loads of people on the forum have done it, perfectly normal.

All sorted. Both wife and son now have visitor visas. 3 hour drive to the American boarder. Had a day in whitefish, Montana. Then got the visas at immigration on the way back through. 40 minute wait. No questions asked. Free.

Great news fantastic. Now you can settle and get on with family life.

I'm now at week 8 of waiting. Only have a file number so far. Do you remember those days a year ago......

I do lol. I was on the edge of my seat every time I got an email and I emailed the company at least once a week. In the end I gave up and just tried to forget about it. Then few months went by and bam. Email saying come over

Ey up. How's everyone doing? Just a quick question. Obviously I'm on Canada on an lmia. 2 year work permit. And now your spouse isn't allowed to work or study. So she just has a visitors visa for the term of my visa. I'm just wondering when will she be allowed to work/study? When I ge nominated or when we get PR?

Just for the sake of anybody reading, most spouses of those on TWP's can get an open work permit. I assume you aren't in a skilled job, so yours can't, but just thought I'd add that in in case anybody else was panicking when reading that!

And it will depend on the province and stream you've applied for, usually it's when you get PR, but if you can give more info then hopefully somebody can help.

My understanding is that spouses of those who have been nominated by a province are able to get a spousal work permit regardless of the skill level of the Provincial Nominee (see OP 7b section 7.7). So once you have been nominated (and have a certificate etc.).

Your wife can study if the course is under 6 months. If it's over than six months then she requires a study permit.

OK, so your wife can get a work permit once you've been nominated. You know that will take quite a while though? So if your wife does want to work, she might want to try and find an employer that will get her a LMIA/TWP of her own.

HTH.
