I knew about Australia and Ireland getting two year work visas but France...how is that?

Unless its only Quebec province that give people with French passports 2 years?

I love the fact the French site allows you to be emailed when the 2014 visas are released but the UK doesn't...(unless there is a page somewhere on the site that i haven't seen yet?

Also why does Australia, France and Ireland (I believe) allow applicants to be 18-35 years old but for UK it only goes up to 30?

Perhaps the UK only allows Canadians 18 to 30 so Canada does the same.
If the UK only lets say 5500 Canadians in on their programme then Canada will only allow the same number of UK citizens in on their programme.
The countries agree so thats why there are differences between certain ones.

5,500 permits
18-30
2 year permit though... Additionally you do not get to choose when your permit starts. The start date is on the letter you receive which is usually 2 weeks before you receive it...

This is taken directly from the IEC Canada website

Del Bonita

I sorted mine out yesterday early on the chance I get two years as well, different guard and I got two years, he said it was changed a few months ago.

One Monday when my mate got his the guard checked the computer and confirmed British citizens are allowed two years. Don't know if its right or not but I have heard of a few other Brits getting two year at land crossings before

Irish citizens on Irish passports who might be considered Brits get a 2 yr work permit but an Irish citizen on a UK passport would only get 1 year.
Am I right in assuming these permits have been issued at Pearson airport Toronto?
Id love to see what these BSO's are looking at that says UK citizens on the IEC programme get a 2 year work permit

Yep, doesn't suprise me that they got it wrong it's such a quiet crossing it's the reason I use it, I cross the border 3-4 times a month always over my duty limits extra tank of fuel and a few cases of beer, I always declare everything an they have never asked me to pay duty.

The IEC is a reciprocal agreement and it will just depend on what the governments have agreed between themselves. So the Aussie program has always been up to age 35 to my knowledge, but that's just what the Australian and Canadian governments have agreed.

It's the same for Canadians coming to the UK, they only get a year and have to be aged 30 or under.

HTH.

Hey man, how did you buy insurance while you were in america? which website? and how much did it cost, I am currently in Canada on implied status (From an iec visa)

To everyone:
How did second year iec participants get insured to show at the boarder? All the uk providers require me to physically be in the uk at the time of purchase

To all wondering why I have implied status, I visited the Niagara boarder the day before my visa expired to ask if I could change my status from worker to visitor, the IO informed me I have implied status, I asked three times to confirm, and me and my girlfriend went home I completed stage 1, and had to process stage 2 when I was at the boarder ( Damn police certificate) , he said he could see the work permit on file for me, and told me to wait till a decision was made. From looking at the posts about the two year visas available I'm guessing they treat the iec like regular permits now.

I used 247travelinsurance.co.uk £206.44 a year cheapest I could find, they get mixed reviews though so I don't know how easy it would be to claim from them, I get full medical through work. I just needed insurance to get the work permit.

I've used world nomads before they are good but twice the price.
